Hey everyone,

not sure if this place has been mentioned recently but I would like to organize a trip to go to Mill Pond in the summer. I've heard all kinds of things about it and despite people saying its a gem and picturesque, I have yet to see pictures. My curiosity has gotten the better of me.

It looks like you have to pass through Holy Cross, another ghost town. Even if you don't, sounds like a fun trip anyways. And only accessible by 4x4 trails, or lots of hiking.

This will probably be an overnight trip (camping) or at least an entire day trip. It would have to be a weekday, specifically because of waiting for other people on the trail (if Jeeping).

If anyone with interest also has a Jeep that can do trails rated 8, you're probably driving.

I honestly can't find a lot of information about this place other than that it exists, people want to go to it but it's too hard, and that it's supposedly amazing.

I'm always up for a good ghost town. However, after a pretty good Google Earth search, I'm not seeing diddly in the area it's supposed to be located. No obvious tailing piles, nothing. I'm wondering if the state of Colorado or my buddies in the Forest Service haven't erased it in the name of saving nature.

I don't live very far from a ranger station and was going to stop and ask them about it. It was mentioned in one of the links I posted (I believe the UER one from 2011 actually) that the GE imaging wasn't helpful. I don't know what to expect or look for, but even if it's a wild goose chase, at least we would know.

I've spent hours looking on GE for this location and looking online. Haven't found a lot. It appears that the town was built along Cross Creek. But using GE I have scoured Cross Creek from it's start at Blodgett Lake to where it ends at the Eagle River in Vail and haven't found much. In the area described in the original link, I have found what appears to be a half standing building and the remains of another, but haven't seen anything like what was described on GhostTowns.com.
I am definitely interested in joining on an expedition to try to find this place. Holy Cross City is another location I'd love to see. I know I've taken my little Toyota Corolla many places it wasn't built for, but this trip is definitely not for it haha.

I caught that ma'am. The imagery is now 2015, and it's pretty damn good. I love GE for ghost towns and mines, there just doesn't seem to be much to see. I'm with Uncharted here and photo evidence. Now, it would be a beautiful trip whether you found anything or not. That's amazing country.

I thoroughly scoured that area in Google Earth... didn't find anything with the satellite imagery, but I did find this image

near that area. Only issue is I forgot exactly where because all this happened about a month ago. There is some sort of structure in the upper right quadrant, but it looks quite destroyed.

ive scoured the satellite imagery for this place a few times as well and have come up empty handed each time. There are definitely the remains of a cabin or two up there but nothing significant really. Thinking that this information may be quite dated, there are many ghost towns that stood completely intact up into the 60s but are now essentially wiped from the map by the elements.

What you see on the internet is not always what you get...

Decided to stay in the area for the summer. I'll try to do a day trip meandering around and see what I can find. Curiosity always gets the better of me.

So I never got around to this (spent most my summer hiking) but something interesting I noticed on this map i got from the forest service. It's the White River Forest 4x4 trail map provided by the forest service. And it has areas marked in it where the forest service doesn't own the land, they're little boxes on places on the map. Probably old mining rights from awhile ago? That was my thought at least. Anyways there was a few up on Holy Cross near-ish to the town. Might be a lead worth checking out next summer, assuming Mil Pond isn't owned by the forest service.
