Honeymooners Resort & Moorish Temple

Over this past Labor Day weekend myself and two friends decided to embark on a mini road trip to visit some resorts. After about a four and half hour drive to pretty much the middle of nowhere we got a few hours sleep and headed out early for a day of exploring. After a few strike outs we finally ended up at a resort a ways off the beaten path. Thanks to HabitualOffender for the heads up on this one, as otherwise the trip may have been a bit of a bust. The seclusion of this place made for a very laid back explore, the sheer variety of things to see and the fact that we went in not knowing what to expect made for a very surprising and enjoyable afternoon. One of my favorite locations of the year so far.

After several hours wandering around the grounds we were starving and headed back towards civilization with the goal of grabbing dinner and hopefully finding one more spot before the long drive home.
The temple we ended up finding was really the icing on the cake for the day. These two locations were absolutely worth the 9 hour round trip! Again we went in with no prior knowledge of what was inside and again we were absolutely amazed. Unfortunately it was getting late in the day at this point and we were losing light at a rapid pace. Despite this we made the most of the dwindling daylight before departing for home.

Enough of my rambling, on to the shots:

Operator, well could you help me place this call
See, the number on the matchbook is old and faded

Lookin out my back door

I'll take it deeper
I'll break it down
Only love can turn your life around

You can reach me by aeroplane
You can reach me with your mind
I don't care how you get here
Just get here if you care

Please, remember to tip your maid

Lovers Secret Getaway

Next time I'm bringing a club

The lights are on, but no ones home

Lounge Against the Machine

Fuck it, Dude, let's go bowling

There's a bullet in the gun
There's a fire in your heart
You will move all mountains that stand in your path

In A Downwards Spiral

Towering Beauty

The Vine is Mightier Than the Sword

I'm mesmerized in every way
You keep me in a state of daze
Your kisses make my skin feel weak
Always melting in your heat

The Demon Barber

A Staircase Fit for A King

Between the spaces where we long to be
Beyond together and alone
And at the edge where you fade into me
We find a shelter we call home

The Hanging Garden of Lights

I love the resort. Went there when it was in near untouched condition. Sad to see it slowly deteriorate.

As for the temple I got exterior shots but foot traffic was too heavy to find an entry.

Glad to see interiors of the place and memories of one of my favorite explores.

Great work!

Thanks everyone for all the kind words!!
Lighting in some parts of the resort wasn't the greatest and the temple lighting was truly terrible. I have neither a tripod nor a DSLR so some of the shots didn't come out quite as good as I had hoped. Luckily I was able to do a bit of editing work on the ones from the temple to make them at least presentable.

Some parts of the resort were still untouched. Towels still hanging neatly on racks, beds still made. Some of the "cabin", for lack of a better term, buildings looked like they had not even been entered since the place closed. Some of the doors were stuck to the door seals to the point I had to give a pretty good push before they opened. The larger buildings were a bit trashed. But overall not bad, especially compared to some of the Catskill resorts I've been to.

Shoot me a PM if you plan on heading back to the temple.

The hanging garden of lights and the shot from below the stained glass dome... gorgeous! Is the stained glass dome inside another dome?

Love the first shot. Guess, you knew id pick that one, lol. The next shot is so relaxed. I can see why people use to like to come here in past years. The garden of lights is another fave. That one is a mind-bender... Was you actually on top of the glass dome? Awesome job on this set.

Thanks! The garden of lights shot is from above the stained glass dome. Yes there is another dome with skylights above the stained glass one.

I know you enjoy your B&Ws from time to time haha!!

Good eye on the Garden of Lights shot. I was indeed up above the theater the dome watches over. Right next to the dome itself, close enough to touch it.

I found a small ladder leading up into the rafters above the theater. Then made my way across the ceiling support beams and over to the dome. I had done this in a theater previously. It can be a bit sketchy up there, but worth it to get a up close look at the "other side" of the dome.

That's awesome!! What are the odds? Especially with the number of bungalow houses on the property. We probably only entered half of them. Many felt like time capsules! Really a cool spot.

A few people have told me that. I usually like to get to the highest point in a building. Which is how I came across the above dome access.
