being an abandoned complex of buildings, 20 miles from the nearest highway/civilization and knowing that you're not alone. Pretty fucking freaky, kids. Especially since we could hear him moving around and found his 'bedroom'.

I used to think I wasn't scared of heights, so I decided to climb my first crane. Twenty stories above the ground, with nothing between me and a long fall but a small catwalk as the entire crane swayed in the breeze, I learned something about myself:

I'm scared of heights after all.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

hiding in a room for almost six hours by myself with low phone battery as police came inside to do training while my room had zero view of if they were still there or not. oh, and my wife was two weeks away from giving birth.

Me and some friends tried to get into a house we thought was abandoned. Turns out it wasn't abandoned and half way through me dropping down into the basement through a window with broken glass all around a loud wailing alarm goes off. I don't think i'm ever going to move that fast again. We ran around the yard to the fence/hedge where we hid our bikes and got the hell away from there. The scary part is that house was part of one of the biggest drug busts in southern Ontario and that the drug lord was out on bail at the time we went to the house... Also he is part of a motorcycle gang...

Checking out a very distant and very big dam wall/reservoir, far out of phone reception and first off being in a dense forest and hearing the loudest, almost demonic screams echoing and moving all around. When they all head towards you at once and you don't even know whether this beast is on the ground, in the air, big, small, evil, nice, etc; then is when the freezing fear kicks in. However, it doesn't even end there. After some decent shots of the dam wall, coming back to the car, far from people in this dense Australian forest at like 1am and this super creepy ute idles right near the car just as we approach. Highbeams blaring and you couldn't even see the driver. I don't know if anyone's ever seen Wolf Creek, but this was the real thing, some crazy Ivan Milat, Zodiac killer stuff. After nearly 30 seconds of us staring at the ute it just speeds off throwing dust all into the night. Bloody scary stuff.

(The demons ended up being just sugar gliders/flying foxes, which tend to let off almost demonic screams when searching for food)

My encounter in a remote farmhouse in Belgium a few years ago that ended with me and my friend being pursued out the building by a crazily angry farmer wielding a large pole, only to get to the road and find his wife slashing our car tyres...

Or getting to within literally a doors width away from police dogs being trained in a freshly abandoned school, after the police dog handlers entered the building about half an hour after we did (they didn't know we were there). Cue about ten minutes of being as quiet as possible and trying to sneak around where we kind of thought they were in the building. Until I reached to open a door and a metric crap-tonne of mental dog barking erupted from the other side, I have never run so fast in my life and I doubt I will ever run that fast again.

It's not what happened inside the building, but outside.

After a few hours of driving around a notoriously bad city in NJ, my friends and I all convened in the parking lot of a Rite Aid right by a school that was mid-demolition. My friend was outside the car, talking to us through the window. A minivan drove past, saw her, and immediately pulled into the lot. They were trying to get her attention, so we told her to get in the car and we were going to leave. The van pulled up behind our car and the door slid open. One of the people in the backseat was reaching out to grab her. Next thing I remember was that we had managed to get out of the spot, with our friend in the backseat, and we were heading for the exit of the driveway. We had passed a police station a few blocks away so we decided to drive right there. As we headed towards the station, the minivan gunned it out of the lot in the opposite direction. It felt like the whole event took several minutes but really it was mere seconds. If we hadn't all acted just the way we had there is a good chance we may have never seen our friend again.

Just a reminder for those who explore in the hood. Getting shot or robbed aren't the only bad things that can happen. And no photo is worth any of that.

1.

Not the most dangerous experience but more of a Halloween type explore. I walked into an abandoned greenhouse and found these plus the entire building covered with apocalyptic ramblings of a schizophrenic homeless guy. There were several other strange "art projects" he was working on scattered throughout and it was obvious he was still living there.

Not super terrifying, but my group got chased off a property by a guard dog a couple weeks ago. We were aware of at least 2 human guards on the property at the time, but pushed on anyway. Needless to say, when we were greeted by a canine, we got a nice cardio workout.

While hiking or exploring, before entering a wooded thicket or possibly inhabited structure, I try to remember to make my presence known to any other living creatures that may be around. I don't want any surprises!

Once, I approached an isolated, long abandoned decaying house in the forest. I knocked three times on the nearest wall and shouted "Hello?! Anybody home?" into the still, quiet interior. To my surprise, after a pause, I heard an echo of three knocks on the floor/ceiling above me. I climbed the stairs to greet the "inhabitant", preparing for the worst, but never found anyone/anything anywhere else in the house.

This has happened to me on one other occasion and while I don't attribute it to supernatural/paranormal stuff, I still can't explain it...

^^^ I love stories like that. Short, ambiguous, and unsettling.

Couple of meh stories from me.

1. A few years ago, exploring a hospital. Our group split in two, with the other half leaving. After walking around for a bit, the guy I was with realized his phone was dead, and that the others had taken the only functioning sources of light we'd had. The only way out: through the sub-basement. We had to feel our way down and out in the dark.

2. More recently, like a few weeks ago. We were in a site that was wide open on all sides, and some people came up to the windows. Friend and I hid in the shadows and watched them, but they just seemed like curious people that chickened out before coming inside. We continued, but after a few minutes, J came running from one of the windows saying there was a car right outside. We waited a bit, and I figured, since the place was open on every side, we could just wait at one side and move into the woods when the chance came. Every time we approached an exit, a different vehicle would drive by, and we'd get behind something. A car and four SUVs, just circling the building, slowing down when they went by an exit, so we weren't sure if we'd already been seen.

There's been a lot of attention on local gang activity recently, not so close that we'd have expected any trouble, but close enough that it was on our mind.

After a while, I saw that one of the vehicles had parked. Thanks to glare, I couldn't see if anyone was in it. I was in a "screw it" kind of mood, since this site wasn't worth the anxiety and none of my pics were any good (priorities), so I just kind of stepped out. I looked to my right, and saw the other four. The half-dozen or so people that were getting out were just staring at me, not saying anything, so I walked up and started talking to them.

Turned out to be a college photography class. Why they were circling the building, I still have no idea.

Stumblin across a friggin bear! I was visitin a friend in Belleville n we took a mission up to an abandoned cabin. Stupidly went when there was barely any daylight left. When we get there we notice there was all sorts garbage inside like people hang out there; bottles, smoke butts, food wrappers all sorts of stuff.

It was a two room cabin so we spent maybe 10 minutes n as we're startin to leave we hear rustlin outside. We stay quiet while the rustlin continues so we peek out n there's this decent size sucker pokin around at somethin! It was pretty close to the front door but we tiptoed out n got the heck outta there. Didn't wanna know if the mama was around!

Might not be as scary as some others here but I feel like this is a good place to tell this. I went to an abandoned kiddie theme park about a few weeks back. I had been there with people before so I felt fine going alone, which I would soon regret. I go on in and take my time walking and sitting around, just enjoying the place. I remember thinking this would be an interesting place to hold a scary event or game, perhaps with clowns given the recent clown scare. Well two individuals shared my idea and from out of the trees emerged two people dressed as clowns. They probably just wanted to scare me, but they were running right at me and holding some metal rods so I assumed the worst. I booked it (through a shallow river because it was the fastest way back to the car) back to the road and ran a few minutes to the nearby mall I had parked at. My shoes were wet, I was out of breath, and was still shaken up from actually seeing two clowns that I thought might actually attack me. I then ate a cookie and went home.

A guy walked into a house we thought we were alone in and pulled a gun on my friend, he was waving it around not pointing it directly at her, but being very threatening. He was wearing a gas mask and didn't see me behind him. I always carry a bowie knife and was about to use it on the back of his neck.

Someone shot him right in the side of the head with a paintball though and i realized his gun was fake too (a paintball pistol? never seen one before.) He shot back at the guy and sure enough this thing that still looked like a glock to me as far as i know about guns (which isn't much) was firing out paintballs.

Not really that scary, just more disappointing.

There is a live site I have gone to a couple of times. Security is not good, it's easy to tailgate, plus creative routes allow you to circumvent badge scanners. Look official by putting white paper in a badge holder, then it looks like it's always facing the wrong way.

Anyway, the site I went to tests computer equipment for US military. It used to be a factory but has been repurposed for office space. The middle floor ("mezzanine") is rumored to have old factory equipment. All of the doors there are locked, but I kept trying to look for a way in.

There's a wing of the campus that has nothing but labs. Most of the labs have devices that will blast out RF waves because the components they test need to operate on a nuclear submarine. The labs are insane, there's locking chambers that look like they came out of The Watchmen. There's one giant room that reminded me of Portal, it has one giant ass antenna used for testing. All of this was behind a vault door, I was able to join a college tour of the area. Couldn't bring in a camera for obvious reasons, plus any electronic devices are banned from entering because they might damage equipment.

Anyway I came back later and saw a ladder outside of the labs leading straight into the mezzanine. Yay!!! Except a sign said, don't enter during working hours due to radiation. So I didn't
