HI! I want to hear some ideas as to what someone might bring to defend themselves that if caught by authorities, wont bring about more charges than needed.

My best idea is the sharpest ball point pen you can find. I've got a little Kali training and a pen can stab someone just fine if need be, and if I get stopped I dont really have any weapons on me do I? However it wont be as effective(obviously) but at least I wont be charged with carrying a knife or bb gun on private property or whatever.

Is there anything else one can bring with them that can be used as a self defense tool and not be considered a weapon?

Seriously, why bother going to extremes to try and disguise something, or try and hide something, when the most effective weapon a photographer can defend themselves with if needed is something they carry around with them at all times. I know for sure I wouldn't want to be cracked over the back of the head or across my legs with the tripod I use.

^^This^^ Really don't need to bring any type of weapon with you. Maybe a small knife depending on your states laws regarding knives. But if you're going somewhere that you feel you're going to need to use that as more than a tool then maybe just don't go in there...

Taking it seriously in some aspects is important. So you are honestly telling me you would just randomly go into a site without any kind of protection? Like yeah you may not think someone else is there but....maybe you are wrong? So why take a chance?

Anytime someone says How old are you in this kind of context just leads me to believe at least if i'm stupid i'm not alone here :/

This is meant to give people a fighting chance again something just in case they needed to and if they got caught they wouldnt have to be worried about any weapons law problems. This is a safety issue that I think is legitimate and honestly being a troll isnt helping.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. I've explored places in the hood, alone, with nothing for "self defense" other than the valuable knowledge I've been taught over the years. Bringing any sort of weapon to a fight that you're not properly trained to use is not only irresponsible, but downright dangerous. I'll reiterate; if you think you're going to need to stab someone to defend yourself you shouldn't put yourself in that position to begin with. This shit isn't worth getting robbed or killed over.

Reading this thread Im less worried about wild animals or homeless people and more worried about the new guy I bring along going Rambo and killing everyone with his homemade weapons.

I know people who've been exploring places for decades and have never felt the need to carry a weapon.

Yes, well...
I've been doing for over half a century and never needed to use a weapon.
Those definitions to me, sound better suited for thugs and SWAT teams.
Before I would post anything in the UE encyclopedia, I would think about it long and hard.
I make sure it merited entry there.

Well for one I am really glad you can feel safe with nothing on you in the least. I am also glad you havent gotten hurt.

I have seen videos of random attacks. I have enough self defense to(hopefully)make it alright. You should know even the safer places can come under attack.

So really is it hard to think that you may encounter a junkie, gang banger, hobo or such when going into abandoned places? normally where people like that like to hang.

You can be assertive all you want but you do know you do this stuff to. Not like you are making the best of choices anyways going into an abandoned place that has enough dangers as it is.

The most I'd consider bringing would be a padlock and some paracord (or even a sock). Innocent by themselves, but make a very good bludgeoning weapon when put together.

I'm not sure on the legality of it, but wasp spray might be something you could bring if you're concerned about wild animals attacking you (or people I guess). I'm pretty sure bear spray/mace/pepper spray are considered weapons, or at least wouldn't help your case. I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think they could tack on extra charges for having wasp spray.

Wasp spray is good because it can spray up to 10-12 feet and is debilitating like pepper spray. Chances are you're only going to use it if something is trying to really fuck you up.

That being said, this hobby isn't one worth dying over. You should be prepared to deal with bad situations, but it would be irresponsible to do anything less than your best to avoid those situations.

I have places that havent been documented that I want to post? So? I also have updated information on other sites in the db. I need full membership to do that, I would go talk with a local member but I cant find any actives in Utah right now. My definitions are valid with the information in them. They are probably a lot better than things like Nintel, Picnex and Reality Hacker...yeah cause mine just sound ridiculous compared to those beautiful "gems" seems like mine are just as legit as most of em.
