Around two weeks ago, I had a chance to explore one of the most famous abandoned buildings in Madison- not in the least because it's one of the oldest ones to remain standing. The last decade has taken it's toll, but that didn't mean there wasn't anything to see.
1. Grand Hall (Once Was)
2. Staircase To Nowhere
3. Cultivating Ruin
4. Splinters
5. Kneel Before Time
#5 really set me on edge. This was essentially the first thing I saw when I entered, and naturally had some serious doubts about the structural integrity. There several portions of the building I was unable to explore for the same reason- an abundance of hellholes in certain areas.
In fact, I asked some friends who I have previously explored with to act as a sort of "dead man's switch" for me- if I did not confirm my well being within a certain amount of time, they would call emergency services. Perhaps an overreaction on my part, but I was alone and unsure of the safety of said structure. I prefer to err on the side of caution.
6. Hail To The Usurper
There was graffiti. So, so much graffiti. Ten years of graffiti is quite a lot, as it seems.
7. Blowout
8. Hold Fast The Walls
If you look on the left hand side of the building, you will see several orange poles. These are actually holding that portion of the building upright, without which it would collapse. Yet another justification for my wariness.
I'm sure several of you recognize this location. Despite the distinct lack of industrial machinery and difficulty gaining entrance, it was an excellent location, and an interesting look at the industrial grandeur that once was.
