I think that's the most believable headline I've ever read. What a shame.

If you're going to climb while intoxicated you better be real good and lucky.
Yes, well.... the odds caught up with him.

Saddle up a buzz-buzz, he died doing what he wuved, etc...
when you fuck around with moving trains death is grinning.

Dead hero? He was showing off and got derped. Sounds like a pretty fucking stupid ass way to be a fucking hero. My Dad worked as a firefighter for the city of Philadelphia for 30 years and his daily job was to save lives at the risk of his own.
THAT'S a fucking hero. Not this simple twat.

That previous post of mine was dripping with sarcasm. These assholes today have no clue what a real hero is...

It be inaccurate to label him as stupid.
This site is full of adrenaline fueled risk takers.
If you walk the rails long enough you will see damage from freight overhangs to RR infrastructure, sometimes massive. Loose overhead guide wires and other objects are not uncommon.
Tracks are dangerous and a moving train more so. Things aren't anyways where they should be. At 30+ mph it doesn't take much.

Dev was killed by a train. That could have been any of us that has spent time around active tracks. Not only can things be dangling from rail cars, they can launch heavy objects on the tracks as well. There's a lot of mass there.

I've jumped and road a train once. It was a blast. No regrets, but the way and at the speed I dismounted it, it was part luck I wasn't injured or killed.
All I can say is try to limit pushing your luck around tracks and trains. The reward for failure is seeing pain in colors and death.

The man may have not been stupid, but his actions were born of stupidity when knowing the risk involves possible loss of life.

How many times have you been floating in midair Ed?
Lol, yeah he acted rather rash.

When I -drove- off that train I jumped, sober, it was going between 25-35 mph. A quick ride I thought when I first got on it was moving about 2 mph. Didn't think it would pick up as much speed as it did and didn't want to walk or thumb an extra 7+? miles when it did finally slow down.
So it's on a slight downhill grade picking up more speed every minute. There's about 6 inches of fresh snow of the ground. There's trees and heavy brush beyond the RR right away. Was worried if I jumped and rolled I smack into a tree or get bounced under the train...so seeing all that soft snow there I decided to dive off the lowest rung of the boxcar ladder head first and belly land on the snow. I realized too an unseen stump or piece of metal could fillet me proper. Lol, look hard, look good, god the last rung is high... and weeeeeee!
Landed soft, proper, and slide through the snow without even getting a bruise... that was fun, dumb, and scary.
Too fucking funny.

Better to be the one that got away... RIP to those that didn't.

That rooftop shot with the dangling legs reminded me of this Nietzsche quote:..."..for when you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.” Seriously, most of us have taken chances we maybe should not have, yet thrilled when we succeeded or at least escaped unscathed.

I should explain that I don't think this person is stupid for wanting to take a risk but rather it's stupid to try and take that kind of a risk while intoxicated.

well, it sucks he died, but he wont get any sympathy from me by getting intoxicated and putting himself in danger on purpose.

I just hope this can be a lesson to other people out there who think stuff like that is a good idea.
