Like a few have said, New York, but it's expensive as tits depending where you go. If you don't hate the idea of a roommate you can get a good sized apartment in NYC, but it's such a vast area so the prices vary. Plus side to New York is that I can take a weekend trip up to so many places within a 2 hour drive.

You have to make big bucks and be nutz to live nice in NYC. There are too many pigs there.
Long Island is so much nicer but the traffic blows, but not near as bad as NYC. At least the people are friendly.

NY state is overtaxed and bureaucratically top heavy, I would not recommended to anyone except those I loathe. Winters suck.
I've been to Manhattan over a dozen times, paid; you can't pay me to go there anymore. I won't.
I can deal with them, but why bother when there are places so much cheaper and nicer to live?

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Mr. Essex also took me on some delightful tours of the many extremely bad neighbourhoods when I was there at the weekend - some intentional to get to places, the worst one, unintentional hahahahaha.

Oh sure, you were fine being in Tioga/Nicetown in a massive blighted factory but those trips to Hartranft and Strawberry Mansion had you wishing for the safety of Oxford.... LOL.

It was more the unintentional trip through West Kensington (I think) that gave us both the jitters

Oh yeah, the area with the drugged out zombies? That was definitely northern Kensington, possibly Harrowgate. The land where stop signs don't apply. We weren't far from the other sketchy north philly church, I should have driven you by so you could have seen the outside. It's quite a place.

New York is definitely a great place for exploring. Plenty of large abandoned structures on Long Island as well as places in the city.

Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints
