I moved to Grand Rapids about two years ago, and have just gotten into urbex fairly recently. Is anyone around the Grand Rapids area that knows any good spots. I do a lot of photography, and want to get some good shots.

I lived there when I was younger and I feel like all you need to do is drive around for a few minutes and find something. Maybe drive around Wyoming a little?

The more I explore, the more convinced I am that every metro area has at least one or two top notch sites and dozens of lower grade ones. The question is how to find them - thankfully there's plenty of means and methods posted all over this site.

Set up google alerts, follow the waterways and rails, look for low income areas and satellite scope block by block, look for closed business, church, and school, and news reports. Bad roofs are the first sign of a bando, now or soon.

Good luck on your search - they're out there. Do the dirty work yourself and you'll start daisy chaining leads.

As someone from Sag I've always wanted to explore in Grand Rapids. Maybe sometime I can make a trip over and we can explore some sites together.

Just remember to take the routes less traveled. I find in Saginaw that the best sites are tucked away so the general public can't see them. Once you get beyond the main roads, it's generally easy pickings.
