(These photos are from 2016/05/28)

This is a house I passed by a few times while going to a part of RI that I don't normally go to. Glancing at it's weird perch on top of an artificial hill, surrounded by some kind of shipping/receiving facility, I noticed broken windows. And thus, my friend and I went in under the cover of darkness.

(I wasn't any good at taking low-light photos yet, hence everything being a bit dark or blurry)

01: Front Door

02: Fireplace
There is severe water damage up at the top right.

03: Flakes
It should be obvious by now, but the paint in this house was NOT doing well. All of these flakes are from the ceiling. And the rock is probably from outside. Probably.

04: Shower Door

05: Basement Stairs

06: Basement Stairs (Paint)

07: Basement (Left)
This side is vintage 40's wood panel boards.

08: Basement (Middle)
The other side is some cheap (and usually warped) cardboard sheets with flimsy wooden strips across the seams.

09: Basement: (Right)
My friend is an electrical engineering major and basically that breaker box is one gigantic code violation.

10: Column Chair
A creative solution to a problem faced by many basement owners.

11: Furnace
I put my flashlight inside. This furnace was completely coated in intact asbestos. There were some hooks along the ceiling that used to hang some big wooden shades, which were now lying in the corner. The house being so unusually high up made it effectively immune to flooding.

12: Huge Windows
This kitchen had huge windows and a great layout. A shame it was left to rot.

13: Oven
There's a neat exhaust vent above the stove for venting any fumes. We were still able to open and close it.

14: Fridge
If I could, I'd love to replace my fridge at home with this beauty. The entire thing was immaculate, even the inside.

15: A Muffler
You know, just, casual muffler.

16: Ceiling Light

17: Staircase

18: More Peeling

19: Closet

20: Fairytale Floor
Unfortunately this one came out blurry.

It never ceases to amaze me how unique the interior design of a house can be.

EDIT: Formatting fix.

that floor!!! oh my goodness. what a dream for a nursery or children's room. so much retro goodness in this home. you are spot on with that fridge. it is way cool. as is the oven vent. i wonder what happened to the shower door? and the windows? the flaking paint is just age and neglect, but broken glass doesn't occur by happenstance. i look forward to exploring my first home. how very intimate. thanks so much for sharing.

Very nice retro home. It looks like it was actually being renovated for occupation, but they were forced to stop for some reason. Maybe bad roof. Thanks for sharing, and yes, that Fridge...the only thing better would be woodgrain. :p

Nice photos, I agree on the bad roof from the closet photo. Maybe those brown stain is from the metal part from the rusty structure. Surprises me there is still toilet paper in the bathroom...and it doesn't look old at all.

Pretty neat to see a kitchen mostly unchanged since the 1930s. Those "subway" tiles are sweet.

Remarkable craftsmanship present. Thanks for sharing.
