| | | Before I head off to America again for a little adventure here is a little roundup of all that has gone on over the last few weeks. Starting out with a big trip at the end of last month, which turned out to be one of the most painfully frustrating weekends I have ever had. Over the course of two days we attempted twelve locations and got into only three - two on the first day and one on the next - which was hugely disappointing as things just did not go our way at all. But that's what happens sometimes you've got to take the rough with the smooth, the fail days make the successful days feel that bit better. First up was a specialist residential school for autistic children, it closed way back in 2002 but it's location in a small village and with a new school next door has kept it in pretty good condition considering it has been abandoned for fourteen years. It was made up of a collection of ten or so large wooden cabins and was pretty samey throughout so we didn't spend long there. 1

The next location on what was to become the weekend of massive fail was an equally massive industrial dairy, this factory dominates the tiny village it is situated in and has been slowly decaying away for a number of years now. It is largely stripped inside with a lot of empty white rooms but has some interesting areas if you look hard enough, and there is an old Victorian mill building situated on the edge of the site that had been converted into offices at some point which is quite nice as well. 9

Then came the single worst day of exploring I have had for mayeb three years, pretty much the entire day was fail after fail after fail, we got into one place, a large cotton mill which was converted into a college after closure and has really seen better days and that was it. Even this one came at a price for me as something tripped me up in the old weaving sheds leading to me having a closer than expected look at the floor covered in broken bricks and slate with my arm ending up elbow deep in a large patch of stinging nettles. 20

Finally in this little batch is a gorgeous church I visited last weekend. This place was last used as an active church in the 1980s but since then has been under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust who look after defunct but still consecrated churches across England. It's probably the oldest building I've photographed with some of the original features inside like the oldest pews and wood screen dating from the 1200s. 28
