My buddy and I called the cops once after some vandals started throwing bricks and shit at us from the rooftop of an abandoned grain silo. They were smashing stuff and we could hear glass being broken.

Since that location was still in good shape and hadn't sustained too much damage yet, we pondered what we should do when we heard all the noise: should we call the cops or not?

As soon as the first brick landed 10 feet from my friend, we just knew we had to call the cops.

It turned out to be so much fun: first, the cops were very friendly and even complimented us on our flashlights (they were impressed that ours were more powerful than theirs!) Second, after telling them we knew the location pretty well and had a good idea as where the vandals were, they let us escort them inside to show them the way.

In the end, they caught 12 kids between 12-15 years old, hidden in the conveyors.

Considering the fact that they could have killed one of us by throwing those bricks, we felt justice had been served.

I met a spray painter while exploring once, he was an awesome guy and we shared contact information.

My friend manhandled me up a roof once.

See these weren't artist taggers, they were kids drawing dicks all over shit (badly drawn at that) and you could hear the glass smashing and all the ruckus. In hindsight I'm sure I could of gone over there and gave them a good talking to but what if they had weapons? What if there was a group of 5 or 6 against my wife and I? Why open myself up to that kind of threat? I carry a glock with me 24/7 for instances like this but why start shit?

If I'm not directly affected, it's not my business to interfere. It's not my property and I too am breaking the law by merely being there.

You may be carrying a Glock but one of those guys might have a Sig 227 loaded with .45s. That clip holds 14 .45s, bro. Ouch. If he's on PCP, those 9s are just gonna piss him off.

Luckily, I'm a degenerate-looking fellow and would be able to quell the situation with humor and violence, and maybe hand out a beer or two and share a smoke to stop their madness for a time.

I don't hate cops, or security, they are just doing their job - most of the time - trying to keep people out of places they shouldn't be.

If you're in this game there is no point hating cops or security, it will only come back to bite you when you get caught and give them an attitude.

I agree with your decision, shitty taggers are obnoxious. Though, I would have talked with them myself first. They might be decent kids who just don't realize how rare good abandoned buildings are. I know I was that way when I was in middle school.

Okay sure. Shouldn't of called the cops but what would you of done in this situation? I mean this too everyone.

If you're going to tag someone... don't dime yourself here out unless there's a lesson worth sharing. You need to have enough wisdom to decide yourself. Rather asking us, you need to think this through yourself.
If you pack you need to constantly be saying to yourself, what if this happened what should I do?
Hesitation kills. Do your homework!
You need to do some serious soul searching and research over a course of months/years to sort this out.

Me personally I have a low tolerance for shitbirds destroying others property. If I call is up to them... and the situation. I don't need anyone's approval to know what's right. If undecided by default I do nothing.
If I share that kind of story here there are no second thoughts on my part.
Lol, if there was I sure as hell wouldn't tell it!

Truth.
Most cops are people persons by nature and really hate jamming up a good guy. Copping an attitude with LEOs can easily turn into non-compliance and that will lead to less than desirable outcome for you. Cops will choose to overlook minor offenses many times if your not being an ass about it.

If people were wrecking the place, using, or doing much else besides exploring or squatting, I'd leave and call the police. I've only been tempted once:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1594/24493227125_67e934a637_c.jpgDSC_0067

With a group that large, it's pretty probable there's some vandalism going on, but I didn't because, firstly, I didn't see them do it, and secondly, they were actually shouting down instructions on how to get in. Probably not the best group of people, but I'd feel like a jerk repaying them like that. Besides, it's not like a little more graffiti will hurt KPPC.

I personally would never call the police unless i absolutely had to i.e, my life or someone elses was in immediate danger. But I have had them called on me just for being up on the roof of 93 more than once. Not a fun trip trying to run down the building and get back into the tunnels with them circling the building looking for you.

I wouldn't call the cops unless I find a dead body.
If I see a drug deal, I pretend I didn't see it and walk away, just in case a end-up with a bullet in my head.

A year or two ago i saw very disturbing view on the street, at daytime. There was a guy walking, and a couple behind him. Suddenly the man who was walking behind took a huge plank (there were leftovers of a fence which was once rebuilt) and started to beat his head with the plank. After two or three hits he fell down on the ground and he kept on hitting, there was blood and it looked very serious. I was on the way to work, on the opposite side of street. I didn't had my mobile phone along that day because it's not necessary at work. So i cycled to reach the nearest person i saw on the same side of street and asked to call the police immediately and explained what was happening. That person looked VERY uninterested although i was pretty sure he saw that happening, too. I don't know if that person called police or not afterwards because i had to rush to the work. The last thing i saw was that the guy who was beating up that person who was lying on the sidewalk, was running away.
Yeah, i live in a criminal area but it doesn't mean it's a "casual" scene that should be ignored as that uninterested guy did.
