The only one with a "catwalk" appears to be the stack being leased for the communications antennae bolted to it, which looks more like floorless scaffolding. The others have ladders that open onto the rim of the smokestack itself, which is what, not even as wide as a sidewalk?

Here's a BING map of the stack mouths.

I don't think she fell off the stack, I think she fell from the edge of the building as was originally reported. The article that says otherwise doesn't seem to have any other info that the other sites didn't.

Bro, it appears (to my dumb ass anyway) the only thing on that site that is 200 feet high are the smokestacks. The Divine Lorraine Hotel in North Philly is twelve "residential" storeys high, including the maintenance dormers on the roof. At an average that includes the space between floors, that's 10 feet per storey, making the hotel about 120 feet high. If she fell from 200 feet, that factory would be as tall as almost one a three-quarters again Divine Lorraine's. It just doesn't appear the building there is that high, but I could be mistaken.

Here's a shot of the Divine Lorraine. Is the largest building on the Milford site this high, let alone another eight-more-floors high?

Could be either. There have been no new news releases. Not a bad kid...

What I was saying is I think the "200 feet" bit was incorrect. 4 articles say 40 and one says 200.

When they said "she was near a smokestack when she fell", I have to wonder if that's just shitty journalism that meant "she was FOUND on the ground near a smokestack after apparently falling from it". ???

Well I certainly hope she fell from the top of the stack. Be a shame if she didn't get maximum bang for the price she paid for admission.
While 40 feet is many times lethal, 200 feet makes instant death almost certain.
At 40 feet many times death is not instant but lingering and painful. She was DRT.
My bet is still on the stack; she was adventurous.

There is a lot missing from the story it seems. Though if she did fall off the stack itself she probably had better chances of hitting the building than the ground. I'm pretty sure both tall ones are surrounded by additions. I'd like for another article to come out and help fill in the blanks.

Another article seems unlikely. I'm curious about this. The Funeral director knows; from 200 feet there's going most likely be a lot of splintered bones.

Meh, dead's dead, no two ways about it.
Don't do it without knowing your location. Be aware of what "could" go wrong and what knowledge you need to avoid it. Certainly use portable lighting if you're going to do it in the dark and prepare yourself for the worst. It seems to me this was a tragic accident but one that could've been avoided if the woman had the intelligence about the property she needed to avoid such calamity.

They should have predawned it and waited for sunrise to enter. Or left it be.
I've gone into the Beth blast furnaces at night to wait for sunrise or waited till night to leave.
You have to be extremely careful... every step counts.

The thing is, approaching the mill isn't a problem if you know the area. The issue is the dash from the fence line. There used to be a security guard who would do laps around the outside and would occasionally drive inside parts of the massive building. It was one of the more difficult places I had ever done at the time so things must have changed. It's probably going to come down soon. They've been saying it for a long time and slowly picking things apart but this may be the push they need.

They were inexperienced. Too many think these places are playgrounds. Unfortunately the results are sometimes permanent.
I've been doing this a long time. I almost took that last step in an Atlas F silo 4 or so years ago. Only a handhold on the rail and fast reflexes saved me... it only takes one fuck up.
When moving, every step and handhold count... trust nothing.

The first reports may have erred. This most recent article from Associated Press says she fell from the stack top.

Sad thing is im willing to bet she wasnt even the one to choose to go and her friends got her to go with. If you look at her facebook theres nothing that indicates she would be one to explore abandoned places to begin with. Peer pressure im sure but either way its a real shame. Stacks and water towers are things u will never climb....its never worth it i feel

She was a risk taker.
Nothing dangerous about climbing structural steel in good condition if you know how to climb. Safer than climbing a tree...

It's traversing the 200 foot-high, foot-wide rim at night in total darkness with no formal training or even a recon mission that seemed to be the major difficulty here. Imagine that.

One of the most disturbing things I have ever read was an account of two friends exploring an unlit building just like this one in Canada somewhere. The author went into excruciating detail about what it was like to witness his friend fall far to his death through an unknown gap in the floor.

At least as of two months ago, it wasn't actively patrolled. Eerie, but a fellow explorer who went in our group of three climbed the stack in daylight a few months back - but he's an experienced climber with 40+ years of untethered climbing to his name.

Its just a damn shame to hear about anything like this. From what I've read about it, it seems to agree with everyone on here that she was inexperienced. Exploring a well known structure at night is dangerous as it is, let alone going into an unknown structure and attempting to climb something of that height. That's not smart even for an experienced explorer/climber. Just unfortunate that the lesson had to be learned in the hardest way possible.
