this weekend i traveled to two places, and totally different from one another. the latter 'where angels fear to dwell' was very strange. i can kind of see its allure in its heyday, for those who would travel to such a place, but it would have made more sense in the bible belt. and now that it is overgrown, it is just odd.

fit for a king...

Fit for Deet and calamine lotion from the looks (and reputation) of both of them!

hahaha! actually, i didn't come away with any bug bites from either place. and i'm usually a bowl full of sugar to bugs. i guess i smell that sweet funny though, as toxic as deet has been proven to be, it is still my go to bug spray. that shit works!

I think everyone I've met that went to Bannerman's before it was a "thing" came back with poison ivy. I'm like a walking vial of crack to a mosquito!

I'm not missing poison ivy at all. It can't hack the desert. Usually if you wear long pants/shirt and wash good right after you're ok unless you're really allergic. Unfortunately a person's sensitivity varies from year to year... only one way to find out.
Once after going through fields of waist high PI I got busted. Warned the cops patting me down but they blew off my warning. I didn't get any... but they did

Very cool locations. The castle would be fun to drone. Yes' deet is in my back pack. Though I eat enough garlic to kill those GM mosquito vamps.

When I eat garlic, the mosquitoes that attack me all have hairy backs and unibrows!

I can vouch for that... I can usually just about roll naked in the crap and not be bothered by it, but I got eat up with it a few weeks ago camping out at Mt Cheaha Alabama with my son. I wonder, too, if subtle differences due to location can effect your sensitivity to it? I'm pretty sure I waded through a bunch of it in W.V. earlier this year with no issues.

i had no idea. so it is sort of like pollen then? or not that the species changes per region but that our body's allergy to it changes? interesting face of the day for sure.

thanks Wheedle it was pretty cool, but also very ruined. what you see is pretty much all there is. no rooms, no ceilings, no interior remains. still, the legend and the proximity to so many other cool surroundings and their tales is pretty rad.

They used to have arranged camp outs here and tours but I am not sure if that exists anymore.

i was there sunday. too funny. i've actually hoped to cross the path of another uexplorer while out and about, but it has yet to happen. i didn't notice any cleaning up though. it felt pretty crumbled and grown over still, with signs of the occasional vigil / teenage outing. what a strange place though. back then and today.
