Ok i have only been exploring for a few month, and in that time i found 2 houses that have barely been seen.

All the other places, while sill fun, pale badly compared to the beautiful places i see posted up here.

My question is, how often do you find really cool places?

Are they rare occasions, that happen infrequently?

Or is it my lack of knowledge and experience that keeps these places out of my reach?

Because i am in awe at some of the amazing pics i see posted

If youve found two locations that are off the UE radar in your first couple months, Id say youre doing well so far and I wish more people in my region were as active in scouting for new locations.

They can't all be pristine mansions. Probably keep doing what youre doing for a few years and youll build up a fair skill set and bunch of locations.

i guess i am inpatient lol

Years , then thats ok, I will take my time and learn...That way i will make less mistakes.

So i am guessing, even after years of exploring, no one is finding new great finds every single weekend.

Some areas are rich with killer sites like the NE.
You need to learn what's where you are.
What industries -were- or are there?
Following RR tracks will also yield something of interest especially near towns and cities.
Set your sights on industrial locations be it manufacturing, petrol, mining, etc.
Old hospitals and resorts. Old RR infrastructure.
The list is endless except in Kansas and Iowa... you're pretty much fucked if you live there

Houses can be legally/owner problematic and most are a bore. I avoid them almost always unless they are old with character.

Driving around is how I find most of the cooler things. Also scouring news sites, forums, and other social media can be helpful too.

Little far from Nebraska lol, too bad

Yea good idea, I will start having a more planned approach to finding new places.

I like houses for the possibly haunted factor, but true mostly small, and not much to explore.

For now I take all that i can find, even the small stuff

I live in a place which has almost nothing of any interest, which is sad. But very occasionally I will stumble across something rather nice, this year has been quite an exception really with a number of very cool finds both here and abroad.

It really depends where you live and how far you are willing or able to travel on a hunch.

North Jersey is where it's at right now. We may have lost some of our best large complexes but there are still tons of good things around. I was scoping out spots in a city next to where I live and went by 4 abandoned schools that I've never seen anybody shoot. I've also not gotten in any of them yet. But that will change once I get a car. In addition we also have abandoned mansions, theaters, churches, and tons of hospitals left. I never get bored around here.

1. Go to Google.

2. Type in "abandoned montreal" in the long rectangle with the little blue square on the right hand side of it.

3. Click the little blue square.

4. Enjoy.

So many abandonments, so little time for me to shoot them!

Definitely spend more time doing research. As Ed said, google is your friend. Make a Google Map with places you find and want to keep track of. Whenever there is a "top ten abandoned whatever" list that gets passed around online, practice researching by trying to find those places in google maps (even if they are somewhere you aren't likely to visit). You'll start learning what to look for when you're scouting online.

Goggle is helpful but nothing like a walk down the RR tracks to find what's really there. Trees and vegetation can obscure interesting relics.
You really have to get out there... when driving I'm always looking around.

When you're living in a populated region someone's always been there before you. When you do the Google search, click over to "Images" and when you see something interesting, click on it, then click on "Visit Page". You'll eventually find out the name or address. Try to narrow your search by typing in "abandoned hospital Quebec" or "historic vacant building montreal" or whatever. Use your imagination and as many synonyms as you can. When "abandoned hospital" doesn't bring you what you need, try "historic sanitarium closed". Just go crazy when you're bored, nothing's on TV and it's raining. You find what you're looking for. Need directions? Go to BING MAPS and hit ROAD, then BIRD'S EYE. Type in the address, zoom in and look around the area for a place to park. Walking up the train tracks is fun but after an hour of that shit, you'll wished you had some more details.
