Fort Gorges is an island fort off the Maine coast accessible only by boat - it was originally designed as a coastal defense fort but was rendered obsolete by the time it was opened. It was last used during the second World War to store submarine mines.

Awesome job shooting this place. I didn't realize there were still any intact wooden stairs left in the quarters area. Glad you were able to make it out there!

Thanks.

Yeah, there was only one set intact. I ended up climbing up a wall to get to the second floor of one section, another was inaccessible without gear I didn't bring (could have done it with basic climbing gear but I traveled light).

Overall it was a cool location - would've been great at sunset but I had to shove off by 4:30 so no go on that.

Nice shots. One of my favorite places I've been. If you go out at low tide in a smallish boat you have to hoist yourself up pretty far to get onto the jetty. We had a dog with us and he almost couldn't do it.

This was really neat, and why I like UER so much... the ability to travel the world through the photos taken by others. I especially like the perspective of the location that #13 offers.

Now i'm even more upset with my brothers! During our family's east coast trip a couple years back, it was on the itinerary to kayak here, but last minute, they decided to do something else instead. Jerks.
Great photos, though! Glad i could see a bit more of it through your lense(s).
