Just wondering if anyone has taken a trip down to Cairo, Illinois lately? it is well known for being a "ghost town". I would like to plan a trip there soon - just wondering if anyone knows of any history or stories of their own that they would like to share? thanks!

Haven't been on UER in a while but in case you haven't gone yet: They demolished so much stuff I wouldn't even bother anymore. Last time I went, I counted at least 19 individual buildings razed since my previous trip. The main street with rows of cool old abandoned buildings is just a bunch of grassy lots now.

Guess it depends. Having gone before the recent round of demolitions and then afterward, it was pretty disappointing how much was gone. There's still a few of the larger buildings, yeah. But the rows of vacant old buildings on Commercial Ave, which really gave it the ghost town vibe, is not a thing anymore.

Never been but all the research I did when I lived in IL suggested that it wouldn't be a very eventful trip. If you do plan on going, I'd say scout out locations on the way as a back up plan in case it's a bust. I had a whole trip planned out doing that but just never made it out there before I moved out of state.

I went a few months ago - it was fantastic! I could tell that many of the buildings have been torn down already. But I was able to explore a handful still. I believe I posted some pictures from my trip!
