You 17? Limit all personal information. It gets to be more complicated the more you post. Gender and especially age and location info are not needed. Even if you do -all- this, as pointed out before, all it takes is one "friend" to hand out everything they know about you to everyone.
Many have not thought this through and some younger posters have lived to regret -what- they posted. DOD, FBI, ATF, and LEO background checks should be your primary concern, it could cost you a federal job or a $ecurity clearance.
Secondly the possibility of civilian employers finding what you posted.
Federal Intel agencies can ID you to your posts if they want to go to the trouble. Be more concerned as the what you post than to "hiding" your identity.
I'm personally not concerned but have a better understanding of this than most.
