I'd much rather watch them with my own two eyes. Photos make sense when it's an obscure location, but with that the photos you get are way worse than anything you can get off Google, and you miss half the beauty of it since you're fiddling with camera.

Not going this year. But in the years past I had to drive 1.5-2 hours out of the GTA to be able to get a good view.

I generally google map a clearing as far north as I'm willing to go and setting up camp there. Just make sure the location has a clear view of the northern part of the sky (that's where the meteors will be).

I was supposed to go to something up at Mononk Preserve in NY last night...but we got crazy storms (5 people struck by lightening in my home town) so it was cancelled. The rain date is the 24th (Huh? A weeknight after the meteor shower is over?)

Hoping for some clear skies tonight to try to go out and find a dark place to give it a shot.

I got out to shoot up at the cottage prior to the peak and I was seeing about 10-20 an hour but not catching them in the exposures until this one.

Stars by Zen, on Flickr

The Wed night before peak was probably the best night up this way but I was working the next day and didn't head up, currently it's crap weather but they do hang around for a couple days after peak.

This is a helpful link to find dark sky areas near you and to see the forecast for the night. http://www.cleardarksky.com

Cheers,

Shit, that's a beautiful view of the night sky. How far away from Toronto is your cottage?

About two and a half hours. It's got a fair bit of light pollution imo, but it's still way better than the city.
