How many locations are actually in the database?

Hey so I have a basic account on here and it's been really cool using the map to check out where different locations are. But I started to wonder how many locations are actually in the database for full members. My question is, when someone becomes a full member, is the number of new locations available in the db big or small?

Canada has over 3000, US over 5000. California has almost 400.

Dang, it shows only 199 locations in California for me, including demolished sites. I guess it will be very exciting if I ever become a full member!

A very large percentage of them are either demolished or redeveloped. The signal to noise ratio is such that I've stopped checking it when I'm visiting a new city. You're not missing much.

It's more like a museum of demolished locations and old photos.

Aw really? I was looking forward to full access to the DB. I suppose it gives you more incentive to reach out to other members for information instead

there are 9851 finished and available for viewing UEDB locations

3376 are publically viewable

a handful of unfinished ones or for some reason unavailable ones and over 304000 photos

best way to find places to explore is to explore for them trust me its way better that way

I quoted this twice for emphasis!

Though I do love to browse the public DB for places that I will never go. I like the pics and stories So one of these days I will look forward to seeing all the other location write ups.

I have always used the database more to learn a little about the history in my area(s) versus a tool to find places to explore. Sure, you can find some long standing classics and maybe even add places you find but I was under the impression most people won't post locations that they explore in an extra attempt to keep them under wraps. Like it or not, there are likely a few full members that are active LEOs as well as users of this site that would likely draw notice to locations.

I know to a basic member the DB is touted as some epic Bible of awesome exploration locations but if that is anyone's expectation, you are in for a bit of a letdown when you finally see it. To be honest, when I first got FM I wasn't sure if I even had access to the full DB because it looked so similar to the public version. Still cool to have, and I enjoy when I can add something but most of the experience of this site is in the use of the forms.

Springtime last year.

Being a full member isn't just about access to the full database, it is mostly gained through contributions to the forum and trust within the community and is more a badge of that than anything else. Get contributing, get yourself out there, try and meet with other full members when you can etc.

contributions? like sending money? there was a forum about this I read. I thought to become a member you had to post, meet up with people, be active, trustworthy, post pictures, etc.. not just send money.

Don't think hes referring to money, contributions as in pictures sets, possible new locations, etc. I'm new here too and it seems the full members only take people seriously after a few good photo sets, gotta prove you're actually in it for a good reason

ohhhhh! okay, because I was going to say, I dont remember reading that in the forum regarding how to become a full member. I really appreciate how this site filters out the assholes who just want to destroy abandoned buildings and cause trouble.

People put entirely too much emphasis on the location database, but what whatever it started as, UER is a FAR better social network than it is a shopping list of locations.

Really, are you here to explore and do cool shit or are you just curious and want to do some site-seeing?

Rather than copy it all here, I'm going to link to my thoughts on the UER Database and what this site really is (or should be) about from another thread. There's context, so feel free to skip the song and start at "UER isn't a location database..." a little ways in.

My Collected Thoughts on the Fascination with the UER Location Database

Lots of people still put stuff in the database. Many of the people who have been around for a while realize that doing that can lead to the downslide of that location and so many of them have stopped contributing to the database.

What you want to do is put out some feelers, get a little attention, and get to know people and go out with them. People will share their treasures FAR more freely with a person than they will with a user icon.
