Lens rentals?

I did a search and couldn't find anything...

I'm going on a trip and looking at renting a nice wide angle f1.4 lens that runs about $2k and have found a few sites that where you can rent it for a week for about $100.

I've never done this before, but wondering if anybody has an recommendations for a good company to use and good or horror stories about lens rentals in general?

Thanks.

lensrentals.com is basically the best place to go. Definitely an upstanding operation. Do you really need an f/1.4 (24 or 35mm presumably)? if using a tripod and/or not needing to shoot wide open handheld in low light, save the $ and just use a normal wide-angle lens (e.g. not super fast.) Also wide-angle @ f/1.4 is not going to be super shallow DOF if that is what you are looking for...

Agreed! I have used them in the past for big lenses with big price tags that I would get in big trouble for buying. lol

Thanks to both of you for the info, I'll definitely check them out!

I'll confess, this question wasn't actually for Urban Exploration I have a 10-24mm f/3.5 that is perfect for that!

Going to a workshop this week for taking pictures of the night sky, and then in October I'm heading down to Florida for Halloween Horror Nights. An awesome event at Universal Studios that runs until at least 1am each night. Packed, dark themepark that doesn't permit tripods or monopods. So was looking for a wide angle lens with the widest aperture possible to test out at both the park and then to try to apply what I learn this week to take some pictures of the night sky in October to get the most bang for my rental buck.

Of course, I'll surely end up looking for some exploration opportunities while I'm down there...

I've done it a few times and have never had a problem.

That makes sense, for that usage. night-sky photos (without a tracking mount) definitely need as wide-open an aperture as you can get for shots where don't want star trails.

enjoy!
