I really dislike strong HDR, but that shot didn't bother me at all. Probably because it was just the window from one shot and the room from another rather than those fake looking pictures where every highlight and shadow is from a different picture. It probably also helps that the transition between light and dark is pretty sudden and clean.

I totally agree, a lot of harsh HDR photos lose the authentic feel. I think your right about the sudden transition helping it out, you've changed my mind on the photo. Thank you for your comment
