This is the place that caused ripples through the online community in the UK earlier this month, which has resulted in it being my most viewed Flickr photoset by some ridiculous margin. Not bad for something that is basically a modern, completely empty facility. My photos have now appeared reproduced in various online sports magazines (all with permission of course), I had people asking me about the place from as far afield as Brazil, Italy and Spain - which are all massive F1 supporting nations of course - and to be honest I really should have seen that response coming!

This place is right in my backyard too figuratively speaking.

In 2014 the Caterham F1 Team went bust in spectacular fashion, in the middle of a normal work day bailiffs arrived and told every employee to switch off their computers and go home, and that was that. Soon after, the assets through the entire building were seized and auctioned and the building shut down.

It was only shut down to a point though, because the whole building still has working electrical systems, heating, running water etc. This is a double edged sword though as certain areas required an electronic key card to gain access to which of course we didn't have. But me and my friend got around most of the main site easily.

As for the name-dropping, well it's difficult not to here.

No parts, everything of value was seized and auctioned off to pay the firm's debts which ran into millions and millions. There were however old part block moulds dumped outside on pallets.

I'm just as impressed with your tour of this place now as I was when you first posted your shots on Flickr. Glad you're getting some press with them!

That will be the third or fourth motor sports team that were based at the site that went bust in the last twenty years, the place must be jinxed.

This is such an awesome find.

This place just oozes awesomeness, despite it being mostly cleared out! Certainly one of the most unique locations I have seen in awhile.
