Shooting with Fuji Instax wide format cameras. (26 pics)

About a year and a half ago, I bought a Fuji Instax 210 and then the 300 model as well, since the 210 proved itself worthy.

But, for "instant photography", there isn't much out there to shoot with anymore, since Polaroid is dead and Fuji discontinued the indispensable Fp-100c pack film. (If I had the choice, I would only shoot with that)

So… while the world is stuck waiting for either Impossible Project or some other company to come up with a solution, I am content with my two Instax wides (seen in the last picture)

I will also be embarking soon on a (somewhat expensive) venture into Polaroid Spectra and 600 film formats. Enjoy!

(P.S.... The lavender background color of the UER forum does make these pictures look bad. To see them in a better way, just visit the complete Flickr album here: https://www.flickr.../72157669538001311

No problem. When you say "method", are you asking as someone with questions about scanners in general? Or are you asking as someone with questions about how to scan a small print with a scanner you already own?

Excellent stuff. I used to shoot a lot of the 4x5 version of FP100C and FP100B when it was still available, DR wasn't that great but it was still a lot of fun to shoot (and useful when I could barely see shit on the dim ground glass of my large format camera)

Thanks! I never got the chance to use peel apart film.. At least Impossible Project is trying. Fujifilm makes a ridiculous amount of money off the Instax series, especially the mini format. Here's a handy link about ongoing efforts:

More so asking if your using a scanner, iv seen people use their dslr's for scanning pictures before. I have an Instax Mini but im not sure how to get the images onto my computer.
Id rather not have to buy a scanner to be honest.

I never knew you could use a DSLR to scan anything. But to answer your question, these are scanned with an Epson Perfection V600. I set it to a high-res scan and then chopped the document size way-way down to a reasonable maximum viewing size in post-process. This was my first effort, and what I learned is that each scan of each photograph had a different need for adjusting whites, depending on both the photograph, and my personal taste. That was basically it.

I have heard great things about the Instax minis, especially the Neo model, but the print size is just too small for me. I know that you can do just about anything with them, including using the film to print from any digital file.
That is pretty awesome. I just wish they would innovate more for the wide format that I use..., but I think in due time they will.

Cool thanks for the tips. Maybe im thinking of people scanning b&w negatives with a dslr (which seems like a lot of work).

The Instax Mini is awesome, but im probably going to buy a Instax wide 210 soon. Price wise it probably saves money on me developing 35mm film all the time.

Yeah, that would be a lot of work. The V600 can scan negatives (minus large format) right off the glass, no external negative scanner needed.

The 210 is just fine, since it puts out the exact same picture quality as the 300 model. Someone on my Flickr asked about the difference, so please forgive the "copy / paste" answer below:

The 300 has only a few functional improvements, it is mostly a cosmetic change. The 300, for example, has a tripod socket and a ring you twist to switch between focal ranges, instead of a tiny button like you have with the 210. Both cameras produce the same image quality, but I like the feel of the 300 better.

Aside from that, you would not be cheating yourself settling on a 210.
The main thing is not dropping it. The Instax wides are the most fragile cameras on the planet, and if you drop it even from a short height, you can't cost effectively repair it.... You just buy a new one, instead.

Cool stuff. Always neat to see new things tried with different perspectives.
I ran an Impossible pack through my Spectra recently. Everything came out over exposed and yellow tinted (which I read others have experienced). Kind of a bummer for an expensive 8pk but still fun to shoot with.

"If you’re going to use Impossible Project film, be sure to tape a dark slide just above where the photos are ejected to protect them from light for the first few seconds of development. Otherwise, all your photos will simply be blown out by the sun. The first five seconds of development are the most crucial."

I also heard about this! Only with their color film, though. People are saying you need to keep the film cool, use a "frog tongue" that blocks the light as it's ejected, and then put the print in a dark bag. I don't trust the color film enough to buy it, but I'd try the black and white.

How did the film develop in cold weather? I mean was it easy when i shoot fujiroid in the colder temps it takes forever, and some of those shots are really well done, the tombs is really cool

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

Thanks. It worked just fine. I'm pretty sure the beach shots were taken on the coldest day of winter. I haven't done any experiments to try and get different results.
