There is this omnipresent thickness that seems to permeate from every bend in this old sanitarium. Years upon years of memories slowly wither away like the paint languidly hanging from these walls. These decrepit hallways and barren rooms attempt to find some type of clairvoyance with the modern day, but fall short of their deliverance due to the heresies of contemporary medicine. Although these strongholds of the sick are rapidly being eradicated from the American countryside, their photographs will forever live in infamy. Let us scrutinize these institutions from a bygone era before they disappear forever.

Enjoyed your take on this hospital. I never tire of it or its lonely porches. The first shot is really pretty with the trees in bloom and all the greenery. Awesome old bottles and small autoclave.

Great set! Any shots of the collapsed staircase near the morgue freezer?

Thanks everyone!! I really appreciate it.

Absolutely. Its distinguishing factor in my mind were those giant open porches that overlooked the reservoir below. Wish the third floor had another set, the views would have been spectacular.

Unfortunately, I didn't bring a tripod with me on this trip. I attempted to take some pictures of that stairwell both on the first floor looking down and the basement floor looking up but had a minimum of exposure time of 2 seconds during each attempt. Needless to say without a tripod the shots were basically indistinguishable blurs.

I have some cell phone flash pictures of the morgue though!

Awesome. I love this place. Great exterior. You don't see shots of the outside much.

Thanks! And yep, I've been lurking this forum for awhile and hadn't seen any exterior shots from around the back.

Great shots! I like the first one the best. You just can't beat a old hospital complex being consumed by the forest that was once cut down to build it.

You've got to love when nature takes over, both on the exterior and the interior of a building. Went back to the site recently and the third floor had quite a bit of plant growth!

Oh wow, so that's the culprit, eh? Glad you got out relatively unscathed. A buddy of mine destroyed the dual-landing one in Trenton. The first flight crashing into the second flight "cushioned" the fall and all his breath was blasted out of his chest when he landed on his back. He got pretty fucked up.

I never saw a formal shot post-collapse... so did you guys fall through going up the second floor stairs, then crash through the first floor stairs, ending up on the ground with the rubble?

The second to last photo really stood out to me. Something about the open doors and the lighting is so hauntingly beautiful! Great work!

Yep, was me and someone else. Just collapsed from under us, 20 foot fall. I don't know how we got up and walked away. I got decently fucked up, broke my tail bone and i have a big scar on my side from the cut and i had a HUGE bruise from my hip to my knee. Got lucky as fuck, and now I really hate this place lol.

We were walking down to leave, and it just gave way under us and we fell 20 feet down into the basement. The second stairs did help with breaking the fall, but when we landed and I looked up I saw the morgue...almost slightly funny.

Oh wow, that really fucking sucks!

I never broke any bones on my falls but my legs are totally ravaged with scars from the fucking wooden floor at Simon Silk. The wood collapsed under me in a depression and I stopped about knee-deep, only to find the splintered wood acting like barbs on a fish-hook tearing me up when I tried to pull my legs out without the rest of the floor collapsing around me. I got out of it but it looked like I ran through barbed-wire with all the blood. Oh well, I poured the rest of the beer (I didn't spill during the whole ordeal) on my shins and calves and we went on exploring.

Wow!!! Cannot believe I found the person! My first thought when I approached that stairwell (1st level) was "I really hope I don't find the body of whoever fell through those stairs in the basement."

I can't even comprehend falling through 2 flights of stairs in an abandoned building and walking away from it!

The second to last photo really stood out to me. Something about the open doors and the lighting is so hauntingly beautiful! Great work!

Thanks!! Those porches make this sanitarium so unique in my opinion.

I think one of the craziest things about this story is the recovery of the lost hat
