It's been a while since I've posted a new set; with the spring semester in full swing, there hasn't been much time to explore during the past few months. However, since my experience with 35mm film has been limited in the past, I decided to enroll in an introductory course dedicated to the medium. Learning how to develop and print was a real treat, but overall, I think I've gained the most from shooting; working with a few B&W rolls and an ancient Pentax k1000 has really helped regain my focus on the fundamental aspects of photography, and encouraged me to slow down and pay more attention to my framing and metering. I've spent plenty of time navigating the ins and outs of my DSLR, but honestly, using a simple film setup has been a better teacher than I could have imagined.

I did manage to make an exploring-focused trip (and a quick visit to my hometown) a couple months back, and used my Pentax almost exclusively. Besides some low contrast, I'm pretty happy with what I came away with. Spent as much time roaming around Manhattan as I did exploring buildings, but still got to see a few great spots; big thanks to Developstopfix, GeneralZod, Essexplorer, Superphoenix and Gravemind for help!

Excellent stuff. I learned photography on a K1000 in high school, and I wish I still had it. I gave it away to another explorer in 2008 but I don't think she explores anymore, so I'm tempted to attempt a yoink.

Haha. In addition to being easy to use, they last basically forever; mine's an earlier model and still works like a charm.

Good stuff! My first camera was a K1000. Wish I held on to it. What film was used for these?

Much appreciated! For these photos I used Kodak Tri-x 400, inexpensive but perfectly adequate or a beginner like myself. I'd love to branch out and start working with color film at some point.

Tri-x is a fantastic film and is my favorite B&W besides Fuji Acros. One of my favorite color films is Fuji Pro 400H but it is not cheap. The best color film that is inexpensive is Agfa Vista 200 or 400, in my opinion. They can be found for good prices on B&H Photo.

Nice pics, man. #12 rings a bell! I'm also getting back into film, but just instant for now.

Back in the day, I think I was using a Minolta gifted to me, and when I was in college I also started using Tri-X. I stuck to AGFA paper exclusively for it's softer, off-white look. I remember thinking how different the Illford paper was.
