Fertiliser Factory..

After I got back from the USA I was taken on a surprise weekend explore trip by a couple of friends by way of saying welcome home, we explored five locations over the weekend and this one was by far my favourite. I had wanted to see it for ages and was never in the right area of the country as it's a long way away, but this time things worked out.

The factory used to produce fertilisers before closing in 2002, in fact it's apparently one of the oldest factories of it's type in the country and is definitely unique in design from what I've seen. The main production buildings aren't straight, they are built at an angle and are constructed almost completely of wood apart from the iron support columns. On a beautiful sunny early summer day the smell of the wood was wonderful, we spent a good few hours just chilling in here as it was so lovely and relaxed. The roof of the main production facility has been badly damaged by weather and decay so the top floor is pretty much impassable now but there isn't anything up there anyway.

The more modern areas of the location had been totally gutted and were full of some admittedly rather good graffiti. I think they have focused on these areas more because there isn't one flat wall surface in the main factory and as such there isn't a single tag in the best part.

Fucking incredible...

And therein, as the bard would tell us, lies the rub.

Wow. Jaw-dropping graffiti. I wanna look these guys up.

Photo-wise, I like #2 of yours! And that concrete area that looks set underground... What would that have been?

Also good work on the dynamic range/exposure of #13. Inside and outside is a hard one to get

I cannot even imagine the amount of planning and meticulous care taken to construct the artwork in #16. It is really something!

I hate to admit it, but my first impression upon seeing that slide was the same as Peptic.

The construction and layout of that wooden section are so cool. Thanks for sharing such a unique and interesting building!

Didn't try the slides, they were too rusty for my liking...

The black and white whole wall piece is by an artist called Ekto, the other guy who painted some really good stuff in there was called Dahkoh.
