| | | One of the undisputed highlights from my fourth American adventure last month. If I could imagine my ideal location to shoot in, one that ticked all the boxes of things I look for in an abandoned place this one comes pretty damn close to perfection. This former steelworks closed down suddenly over thirty years ago, leaving the majority of everything inside from the biggest machinery down to the smallest pieces of workers uniform. During it's history it handled some very dodgy material, because of this the site is heavily contaminated and nobody wants to touch the place or do anything with it. I'd never seen any photos from here before we went inside, my friend said that it rarely ever gets explored and this could be for a few reasons - one, its part of an active steelworks with fully operational buildings just metres away from the derelict parts. Two, the derelict parts are not owned by the operational steelworks rather they are owned by the US Government. Three, well perhaps people are just put off by all the scare stories of the site, the reasons for closure, what they actually did in the 1950s evidenced by various bright yellow radioactivity warning signs throughout the buildings, etc etc. It's a magical, wonderful place to explore. 1
