This is a pretty well known location and is one of the places that first got me into UE.
For those that don't know this was once the largest of the "Borscht Belt" resorts and is one of the few that is still standing and in a abandoned state. This area once had, by many accounts, close to 1,000 resorts and hotels. Most have been demolished, lost to arson fires or re-purposed for other things.
Opened in the early 1900s the resort would sore in popularity during the 1940s and 50s. Thousand of rich NYC residents, many of them Jewish, would summer here and at similar resorts throughout the area. Many musicians, comedians (including Jerry Seinfeld) and athletes had their starts here.

Things began to go downhill in the 60s. Airfare, especially overseas flights, became cheaper and more accessible to people. This coupled with the fact that it was now safe for Jewish people to visit Europe and other parts of the world meant less and less people vacationed at these resorts. Competition between resorts only worsened the problem. As attendance dropped, spending soared as each resort tried to out do the next by building a bigger and better pool or golf course.

This once grand and massive resort finally closed it's doors for good in 1986, after struggling to stay afloat for the better part or two decades.

The elements, scrappers and vandals have not done these buildings any favors in the 30 years it has sat vacant. However the buildings are still standing and many are in relatively good structural shape, all things considered.
This place is a prime example of how quickly places go downhill once they get onto more popular social media sites. The place was very different than the pictures I had seen online. Still it is a great place to explore with tons to see. Unfortunately my shots I took there in 2014 were lost in a hard drive crash. These are from our return trip last summer.
Hope you all enjoy!

I do wish I had gotten into this hobby a bit sooner. I could have seen this place, and many others, when they were in better shape. Most of the interiors in this place are pretty ugly by this point, I'll give ya that. However the sight of nature slowly over taking the buildings is one of the things I look for in a abandonment. Granted both of our visits have been in June. I imagine the place would lose some of it's charm in the less green parts of the year.

Nice shots. I've been to this place twice and it was pretty awesome. There wasn't any tagging on the glass windows in the pool area then. I visited during winter time and the entire pool area was a skating rink.
