Let me know when the FBI bothers coming your way for urban exploring.

2004 for shooting in Chester, PA... repeatedly. You may get a visit yourself if you get too close to 911 hot spots or other areas of interest to them.
Remember the FBI can enforce not only federal laws, but state and local. They can severely fuck with you if they want to. FBI Agents are given a lot of operating leeway too.
I've seen them break cover to have a friendly chat... probably best to stay on their good side.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Well, we used to always tag up the blackboards when one was present until some local snitch gave up our real names to the Dallas PD along with information on the user IDs belonged to.

I disavow any chalk talk subsequent to that.

Good ol government wasting money on the real criminals! These damn urban explorers are worse than anyone else we could be looking for. Yeah, I know they can fuck with people, seen that before, but over taking pictures of abandoned buildings? I just can't comprehend the mystical logic that our government operates on.

Just to provide an alternate perspective: the Aussies love stickers and tagging. I was a little taken aback at first, but then I had fun trying to find the oldest 'Dougo & Woody' tags. There is a lot of community going on and people have a jolly good time finding each others tags and reminiscing about past events with their friends, current and former. In some cases the original tagger has past away and their tags become a sort of memorial.

I don't think it has anything to do with showmanship, it forms part of their community just like these forums do.

There is a time and place for it though, and you generally see a concrete "tag wall" right before the transition to brick or whatever. Some places are also off-limits entirely.

This. The sticker wasn't meant to be a showy thing, it was meant to be in a secluded spot. Maybe only one person see's it, but years after you leave it someone messages you saying they found it. Just a way to connect with others imo. Thank you for the reply

Let me know when the FBI bothers coming your way for urban exploring. I take it you have no family in law enforcement or who provide legal services.

Get some experience and then tell me about it. Posting threads like this here is pointless.

26 replies with some good discussion, doesn't seem pointless to the others.

Eh... I'm pretty apathetic about it unless you're messing with a pristine site in a prominent way, but I'd kinda be inclined to say not to. For one thing, I don't think many explorers are going to see your sticker and say "hey, I gotta check THAT GUY out when I get home!" I've seen lots of stickers, tags, and Instagrams written in marker and shit.

To date, I've checked out exactly zero of them. I prefer to find my urban exploration photographs through other means.

As far as promoting your work goes - if you've got good content, people will eventually see it if you keep at it. Post pictures and videos here, on Facebook, whatever.

My motto: Be respectful of the sites and don't be a dick about anything.

Wasn't meant to promote my work, just a way to connect with the others who pass through after me. My page is doing fine and growing great.

You are stuttering.* I was shooting public places and a private site by permission; the Chester Power Station. I was on the roof there. Unfortunately the FBI had a smart cam network operating at that time; I breached at least one target zone. It gleaned me on repeat visits. A week latter two very polite and professional agents paid an unannounced visit to my house. They wanted to see the pictures. One was a senior agent that had been in charge of the drug task force that swept Chester a few years earlier. Chester was one of the cities chosen to test smart cam systems and considered to be a potential hot bed for terrorism.

If the Feds see you in an area of interest to them don't think they won't ask you what you're doing. Especially if they don't like where your cam is pointed. Don't be surprised if they observe you for days or longer before making contact.
How am I doing? We crystal?

Edit; *My bad UndeadExplorer; my post is out of sequence. Sorry.

Yep. I usually cringe a little when I see stickers, cards or instagram tags. It is actually a good way to network with other new explorers but anyone with any experience will just laugh and pass it by.

If I see them I will quickly snap a few pics of them, dismantle my gear, run to my exfil, and be airflifted out by my brothers of the KGB. Trust me one one will question that. But on a serious note, my bad, I've never heard of anything like that happening so I was a bit of an ass. Excuse my teenagerness. But being a teenager if they followed me I would probably do sketchy stuff for fun. If they followed my car, evade the tail, bug my house, make weird references, watched my house, leave in the middle of the night and act shady. Why not am I right? It'd make for a good story lol.

It WOULD make for a cool story! You can tell it to your new boyfriend in prison. They like young boys there so I'm sure you'll do just fine. 👰

I don't give a shit about a sticker. Fuck it, who cares? I mean really... who fucking gives a rat's ass about a fucking sticker? Would you like a side of cries with your wah-burger? Simmer down Francis, it's fucking paper.

Yeah. I'd rather see stickers promoting someones page than massive floor to ceiling graffiti

I'd rather see a massive floor to ceiling graffiti mural than a wall full of stickers.

That'd be very expensive, but not a bad pic. A sticker bombed wall would be cool.I'd like to see one. Not in an abandonment, maybe a pillar under a bridge or something.

One of my biggest problems with stickers is they scream to the owners "hey, there's an open POE! You should go close it if you don't want more harmless explorers in here"
