More of a roadside oddity than an exploration. This thing has been been sitting on the side of the road between Jal and Eunice New Mexico for as long as I can remember.

That's just all kinds of strange. Circa 1965? For Nam Vets, Strategic Air Command Vets, all Airforce B-52s crewman? Wonder who put it there? Never notice that if I did drive by it. You see some damn strange things down here... Thanks for sharing

I don't see a ground wire, and it seems a bit too short to need one, but perhaps a lightning rod.
That makes sense. I'm having a hard time figuring out the true size of this because of the perspective. If it's as big as I want to think it is, a flag pole definitely makes sense, too.

The body of the plane is about 15 feet long. The pole on top used to be a flag pole. About 12 years ago the thing got repainted and a flag was there but the last few times I've seen it (about 6-7 years ago) there was no flag. Honestly even with the flag, it kinda looked stupid. I think they should cut it off.

It was built by oilfield workers to honor the B-52 crews that used to pass through that part of NM all the time. It's cheesy as Hell, but I always thought it was sort of touching.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

Interesting. It'd be cool to see it with the flag, but right now, it has a bit of a ...unicorn feel to it that's kind of odd.

They went a little overboard with the pitot tube... and installed it incorrectly.

Real cheesy but cool. A B-52 formation flying overhead is a awesome sight. The cold war killed more than a few servicemen.
