| | | I'm not really keen on the edit and you don't need a CR2 converter - get yourself Adobe Lightroom which is part of the Adobe monthly suite things for like $10, or just do what 90% of people do which is get it free from TPB or KAT... It will allow you to open and edit CR2 and other RAW files very easily and edit them with a ease, but heaps of control - if you'd like I could do a basic write up on how I edit my photos, or at least link you a few good starting points. The problem with your edit is the yellow tint basically, and there's not a lot happening - the black are also clipping. The unedited flick is better, if you'd like I could edit it for you and tell you what I did. Welcome to the world of DSLR's though - the learning curve is steep and there's a lot to learn but you'll be glad you did it

| | | If you have Adobe Creative Cloud, then you have Photoshop CC. What I did is program Adobe "Camera Raw" to open up as soon as I load a file in to adobe photoshop even if it is NOT a CR2 file. Using the Adobe Camera Raw allows you to "non destructively" edit your images and there are a ton of things you can do within Camera Raw itself. To turn the above mentioned setting on, got to Edit > Preferences > Camera RAW > JPEG and TIFF Handling - Select Automatically open all supported JEPGs Here's a video on Using Adobe Camera Raw with a different access: https://www.youtub...atch?v=PoYjqP8laDI A simple tutorial they have plenty of videos that will help: https://www.youtub...atch?v=yn1lxr46Pqc Here's working with Video in Adobe Lightroom CC: https://www.youtub...atch?v=c7yvmFrOixU I hope that's helpful. Remember, you do not need to convert your images before using any Adobe software.

| | | There are two lenses you absolutely must have if you get a DSLR: A 50mm prime, for pretty much everything. Prime lenses are lenses that lack a zoom function, and as a result they have a wider aperture range, and focus faster than zoom lenses. This keeps you from missing shots, and 50mm is a good focal length because it's approximately similar to your own field of view. Good for large open areas, or anywhere outdoors usually. A wide angle lens (20mm or less, one with a zoom function is even better). These will help you get indoor shots effectively. There will be a slight fisheye effect which you can either embrace, or edit out in post. Personally i have a Sigma 10-20mm which is mostly what i use when exploring indoors. The lenses will do more for you than the body will. In terms of camera budget, you should go for an adequate body, but the best lenses you can afford. Just be sure the body has a good ISO range unless you're using a tripod, which i'd recommend doing anyway.
