Late last month, the city announced it had to
close a sizeable section of a major overpass looping around the northern half of Seoul, as a defect had been found that was reminiscent of the
catastrophic Seongsu Bridge collapse in 1994. Anyway, history lesson over.
1. I came here for two purposes, scouting the overpass and its onramps, as well as locating the lower end of a lengthy underground river, seen here.
2. This thing is a pretty sizeable structure, with a half-assed attempt to build a park underneath.
3. I've always admired this stretch of the overpass. I figure someday soon I'll urban explore an abandoned neighbourhood there.
4. A nicer image of the riverview properties.
5. This section has an onramp to the right that's blocked off and covered by two traffic workers, and an offramp to the left that has traffic pylons.
6. Downstream, the water merges with Cheonggyecheon, an expensive water fountain that runs across the city.
7. Should I go up there? The bus is sending me a subliminal signal.
8. A nicer view of the overpass crossing Cheonggyecheon.
9. This museum next door is a must for anyone interested in urban history, with a recreation of an old storm drain. The structure itself incorporates a recreation of the torn-down Cheonggyecheon Overpass.
10. Those wooden houses, part of the museum, show what housing used to be like around here.
11. About 12 years ago, those old women would have been underground.
12. Anyway, I headed up the offramp, checking back to make sure the workers hadn't noticed.
13. Up on the overpass at blue hour.
14. As I was staging photos here, I noticed the glow of car headlights at the curve in the road way ahead. I quickly put away my equipment (especially the costume part) and prepared for the car to stop and find me, hiding against the edge of the road. Instead, it took the offramp; must've been a lost driver.
15. The other direction, getting into purple hour.
16.
17. All these lights might make it look like the cops are waiting for you below.
18. Another visit, no tripod this time. Also, they turned off the streetlights.
19.
Then later,
this happened.
