last weekend J-vic and I decided to go check this cave out.

After we drop in we're greeted with a decent sized room with a creepy skull.

to get through to the next part of the cave system it was a very tight fit! pictures 3 and 4 show both perspectives.

after a short passage it opens up to a neat room with some cool rock formations

then we came to a point we had to climb down a fairly steep and slippery slope

at the bottom of the slope there was a crystal clear pond but was impassable at the time

Excellent set. I do not think I'm claustrophobic but I also do not believe I could have made it through that squeeze through part without panicking. Thanks for sharing!

Cool shots and nice to see there is some of it left. I was expecting it to be mostly caved in or blocked off.

Nice work and photos. The rebar seems odd. Real limestone caves don't or rarely cave in, unless machines or dynamite mess with them. I thought the entrance was blocked, if it's the same one I'm thinking of.

Hey thanks. I imagine it's the one your thinking of, It's a shame what they did to it!

We thought it would be locked up too when we went looking for it....was a big surprise when we actually found it and realized it was open!

For sure, awesome you got in. First I thought it was the old Mums the word road cave, but with the water and other details, am thinking the tragedy on the hill. Great though it seems okay once inside. Karma will work it's magic on those (he) who trashed it with no respect.

If you like caves, Horne Lake is amazing. There are many on the island, and more yet to be discovered. Just hoping they don't get trashed by logging or development. Very rare irreplaceable eco systems.

kind of unrelated but while doing some searching based on this thread i started reading an article about swans in beacon hill park and found this beauty of a story;)

Crowded into unnaturally small areas like Goodacre Lake and Fountain Lake, Swans were particularly bad tempered. They attacked any competitors for food and bit visitors who were slow in passing out bread. When long-time Victoria resident Roy Fletcher was a small boy, a Swan grabbed his pant leg and wouldn’t let go; his mother saved him by beating it off.

Haha yeah it's definitely tragedy on the hill, I'm sure karma will come back to bite him! I know the moms the word your talking about was thinking about getting j-vic and htp together to check it out one of these weekends(your more then welcome to join if you would like).

I remember going through some of the Horne lake caves as a kid with my dad, would love to get back out there now that I'm older and would actually appreciate them haha. But that's exactly it we are slowly losing all the natural wonders around here and it really pisses me off, just a complete lack of respect shown by developers.

We're really on the same wavelength about the environment and all. Cool you know the grotto My Dad took us through there too, many years ago. I'm just thankful 'Satan's Colon' was plugged. That narrow passage would sometimes flood, or get branches? in it, becoming impassible. That claustrophobia inducing stretch is way above my tolerance.

Thanks re: the small cave invite. I thought the entrance maybe got plugged when they did some road work, maybe not? A bit tight for me these days, not as Gumby as in my early 20's lol, but we'll meet one of these days. Best with your explores.

Any chance this is what you guys are talking about?

I found it while out on a bike ride today, I had no idea this kind of stuff exists here... It's just a little crack right next to [insert best guess].

There is a good squeeze or two, but a lot of is walkable and some sections are 10ft+ tall, with lots of little shafts going off in all directions. I got maybe 150m in before there was a tight squeeze with too much water for my liking and I bailed, but it definitely continues on beyond that.

I was hoping to finally start my own thread, but I dropped my camera in the muck. This is all I got.

There were some really great limestone formations further in. Definitely going back, maybe when it dries out a bit.

*Squints*... Is that a landfill? What the hell happened?

Is it private land?

Yeah I think so, but barely. The entrance is maybe a metre into the property line, if that, and it slants away below.

It looks like the entire hill is listed for sale right now, along with plans for a new subdivision.

What a sad mess man. Highly unfortunate.

Ahhh I saw that! I wanted to go back with a inflatable boat and get to the other side of that water!

That's so cool! I love caving but I haven't done a lot of it in the past. I would love to check this out when I get the chance!
