In all seriousness...this is what I use. It glows in the dark.

Seconded...I always put my water bottle down and then forget it's there. It's helpful that it glows, because often the place I put it is dark and inconspicuous, because if I put it somewhere oddly specific, how can I forget it's there?.

I usually rock a disposable picked up from a gas station, but one of my friends carries a Nalgene on all his explores. He keeps it on a carabiner, clipped to his backpack. If you want a reusable water bottle Nalgene is absolutely the way to go but its definitely not a must have.

I really dig the camelbak brand of water bottles. They're tough plastic and don't spill, so you can toss them in your back pack and go. They're also insulated and keep your water cold all day.

Nalgene bottles work perfectly for me. Almost impossible to break, hold lots of water, and super cheap.

It's something an extended family member buys you when they hear you're into hiking.

There is one still shrink wrapped sitting atop my desk as we speak.
I do keep one in the camping gear since it screws on to my water purifier but I think I have 5 gift ones around now.

They're useful because they're durable and you can buy attachments to filter water, which beats carrying all of your own water when you're out doing things like backpacking. Unless I'm backpacking or somewhere where I can use a refillable waterbottle though, I always take the disposable ones.

I actually use a one liter metal bottle. The advantage is that I can fill it with hot water and slip it into my sleeping bag on really cold camping nights. Keeps my feet toasty warm. If my feet are cold, I'M COLD.

30+ plus years of exploring and with the exception of maybe some mining trips that required bush-walks, I have never taken a water bottle with me.

Why would I want to spoil exploring with water?

lol! Well, I do have my flask, and my camelbak is more of a backpack - it just happens to have a water bladder. I mostly use it for hiking/biking in my area (I'm in the boonies, in the Rockies), as it's always very hot & dry in the summer here. It just happens to be a nice size for explores, too. Not too big & nicely streamlined.

The bladder could hold whiskey... hmmm...
