I climbed a billboard once, but it was one of those basic little ones. The one I did only had two catwalks and it was like twenty feet off the ground. Getting up there takes like 5 minutes and then you're up thats the end of it. In my opinion if you're not going to do a big cool one it's not worth it.

There are a lot of billboard around here that have been abandoned or over grown. Only climbed one, the other unused ones have to be climbed with gear and are rickety as can be

Apparently that DID just happen. And I AM proud of it

Wear a yellow/orange security vest and maybe even a hard hat. The trick is to look like you belong ;)

Workers generally don't wear road safety vests when climbing. Sweatshirt, and maybe a climbing harness but that will get in the way.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

People seen up there without a bucket truck to go with it will stand out.

I used to do street art and bomb billboards.
The trick is to put garbage bads over the spotlights as soon as you climb up.

I climbed one in my neighborhood cause there was a cool piece of art on one side. The one I climbed didn't have a ladder, so it was a bit of a challenge to climb. Got some nice photos out of it though!

How did you manage to scale the billboard without a ladder, if I may ask? Aren't most billboards 20 feet off the ground, supported by a sheer, smooth metal pole?

I live in a pretty small town, so I mean it wasn't exactly huge. But along the supporting beams there were bolts that stuck out about 2 1/2 inches that made it easier to climb.

Climbed one once. Cool spot to watch cars go by. Stay low and don't hang around for too long there

I've never climbed one for exploration, but I've put one up. And We just used a large ladder to get up, we aren't a construction company or anything, it was for charity. Id say a good ladder or perhaps a rope you could climb may work well. Hope this helps some,
MidSouth

..and yes, this was a loooooooooooooooooooong fucking time ago. Like early 1990's long ago.
