This sub-division lies outside of the flood walls of New Orleans, and in 2012, hurricane Isaac flooded the area. Out of the approximately 60 houses, I only saw maybe 3 that are inhabited today. The rest have been mostly gutted on the ground floors. Basically the owners can't afford to rebuild here or afford the flood insurance so they won't be returning.
It took me a little longer to get to this location than I thought, so I ended up there around mid-morning and some of the residents of the few inhabited homes were milling about, not at work because of Mardi Gras; lots of businesses and all schools are shut down for the next few days. So I didn't stick around too long and only went into maybe 5 of the 60 homes. I plan on going back real soon!

A photographer has obviously gone through and posed some items for photos before.

I like how there's just a random bathtub embedded in the floor of what looks like the center of a giant bathroom.

Haha, yes! When I tried to get closer to one of those hallways, the floor started creaking and I was like "Oh, fuuuuuck thiiiiis"

It was a giant bathroom! Probably bigger than my living room.. These people spent too much money building these big ass homes in a freaking marsh..

Such a Shame! It always kind of hurts my heart to see a nice pool with that nasty water in it. Makes me wonder why people would build such fine homes in an area known for its hurricanes and flooding. The blue Violin is cool as well as the jacuzzi tub...and let us not forget those GrandDaddies,,,lol, haven't seen those in years!

Amazing looking spot.

My dream home is this gorgeous mansion I was lucky enough to explore last March. I rarely fall totally in love with places but I absolutely adored this building. If only I had the money...

Great set, Lalani!

It's interesting to know the reason that people left their homes abandoned, for once. It brings a sadness to all of the photos.

Thanks! The story is similar for most of the locations here around Nola, its just a fact of life here. There will be hurricanes and floods!

Went back last week and it looks like some of the places are being cleaned out and there were a few more people around, so I only got into a couple more of the houses. There is one with what looks like a greenhouse that I'll try to get into next time.
