theshortestsim and urbexkeith came down for a visit and we were able to spend a day exploring in Southeast Louisiana before a storm swept in and ended the trip early.

We were able to get into a paper mill that had pretty much been gutted, and one corner had been burned on the upper floor. We parked behind the facility, off a road we thought was not used very often, but as we were walking along the outside, traffic picked up on the road.. These people were driving very slowly and quite a few stopped to look at the car, so we had to double back and move it. Once we were in the fence, though, we had the place to ourselves.

On the way back North, we stopped by this unfinished yacht that is sitting in an empty lot. The neighbor came over and told us that the man who was building this boat himself was planning to retire on it, but his son shot and killed him next door before it was finished almost 15 years ago! Its been sitting there ever since.

Also stopped by a little church in the woods.

And then the storm hit! When we arrived at the next location, not only was it raining, but there was a demolition crew actively tearing the place down..

Thanks for looking!

I've passed that boat at least 50 times over the years and just assumed that it was some boat someone bought on the cheap and never got around to doing anything with. Good shots and thanks for sharing some insight on something I've always taken for granted.

liken pics 2,6 and 10... but, the pics of that boat are really Awesome!
Especially the visual on the double staircases leading above board. Sad story on the son of the man who built the boat tho, thats a shame.

I'd love to hear a back story for that yacht.

Thanks! The story of what happened really took me by surprise. Like most people, I thought the owner just couldn't afford to finish it and gave up.

Nah, it was too dark, the floors were sketchy, and there wasn't anything to see except the unpainted fiberglass walls. The only thing of interest inside were the two engines that are still in it (and for sale), but I couldn't get a good shot of them. We didn't spend much time on it because of the unsafe flooring and the storm rolling in.

I was kind of hoping to see the result of the 7490 - the vial shot where the photographer is down on all fours. Looks like it would have made a very cool closeup.
