I haven't lived in NH for about 20 years now, but one of my brother still lives up there and I go back to visit every now and then. Over the summer he found this house and I had to have a look myself when I was there over the weekend. It's hard to tell exactly how long it's been abandoned - there's a calendar on the wall of a room upstairs from 1952, and a Mother's Day card from 1984 in another room downstairs. There's books and letters and magazines from almost every year in between scattered around. The place is a mess, especially the kitchen, but the most photogenic rooms have been somewhat cleared of junk and garbage. Probably intentionally as I don't think I'm even close to the first person to explore here - while it is in the middle of nowhere, my brother looked at the pictures I took and noticed that a lot of things had been moved around since he was in there just a few months ago. Luckily though nothing has been broken or vandalized. After spending so much time in the Farm Colony on Staten Island and other similar places it's definitely nice to walk through a place that feels so untouched.

I had to cut my trip short and I never even got to check out the basement, so I'll probably revisit this place later this year or whenever I get the chance to drive up there next.

That opening shot is glorious... absolutely everything I want to see in an old residential abandonment all wrapped up in one image. I'd love to just spend time rooting though all the stuff underneath the bed. I've made this comment before, but here is another post that shows that a completely killer gallery can be comprised of only a handful of most well-chosen pics. I think about this every time I go and dump a collection of 20+.

I think the third shot is my favorite, but very difficult to choose here! They are all top notch stuff. I'm digging that behemoth of a radio as well, very cool piece.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I love the furniture here just as much as you guys, and more than one person I've shown the pictures to has half-jokingly offered to drive back up there with a truck. It was very hard to leave that radio behind though, I'd love to make a project out of getting it working again (judging by the condition it's in that might be as simple as replacing the tubes).

I'll definitely be stopping by again whenever I get up there next, probably over the summer, so expect more photos, hopefully of the basement next time. I'm sure it's full of cool old junk. As for the bathroom... I actually didn't see one. I'm 99% sure there isn't one on the first floor, and I didn't get to see all of the second floor but it didn't look like there was much else - I only saw one closed door that could have possibly been hiding a bathroom and even if it was, it'd probably be more of a water closet than a bathroom. That half of the second floor was really piled up with random crap and pieces of furniture though so getting around up there isn't exactly easy and I didn't end up having time to check it out thoroughly. But like I said, I'll be back.

The A-K likely doesn't even need tubes replaced. But, old radios like this were often not wired with a grounded chassis so that would be the first thing to deal with. Ideally run it via an isolation transformer. Additionally any caps (capacitors) would need reforming or replacing at a minimum. Checking values of resistors would be a good idea too. Old sets like that can play again but it's not trivial to get them up and running and easier to do more harm than good when "just plugging it in...".

Nice shots. I like your film-based username too.
