A CT asylum that was used in part as a kind of college annex before being abandoned.

These are some of the images - the rest are on my Flickr and on my website.

You did well making this place look this good Nice set man.

Before a big explore I like to work with leather. The Native Americans always said that working with hides and pelts releases the soul.

Very nice! I've heard a lot about this place. I'm glad that a lot of the old buildings were preserved to form a new portion of the college's campus, but it's clear there's still a lot of work to do.

Incredible shots. Really good use of perspective in the last three, especially #12! The colors flow so nicely together! Keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks a lot.

Yeah, it's an interesting setup - the exteriors at least are pretty well-preserved but the interiors are another story, as you can see.

Looks pretty intact compared to a lot of stuff out here in RI. I'm always amazed when things like light fixtures haven't been scrapped. I've yet to check out any asylums here in New England.

Just to clarify, this was never an asylum nor did the college repurpose any of the buildings that are disused - aside from using them as storage/dumping ground.
That aside, nice photos, pissed about the stupid graffiti that finally made its way to my favorite building on site.

Nice photos. And that is a lot of decay! Any idea of when this place was abandoned?

Thanks - I think it was abandoned in 1993.

Maybe "repurposed" is a bit strong of a word - yeah, my understanding was that they were just using the buildings as storage.

What exactly was it? My understanding is that it was a mental health facility but not exactly an asylum - more of a training facility for those with mental and developmental issues.

I guess maybe "group home" would be closer to the truth. I think I'll update my descriptions accordingly, thanks for the heads-up.

It was a "training school", which was a popular thing back in the early 1900's. It was basically a place for those with developmental disabilities to get vocational training. Residents would do things like farm, learn sowing and cooking, that sort of stuff. It was apparently a common thought at the time that "defectives", as they were referred to, should be segregated from the general population of American schools. We have several in New Jersey, and they had a distinctly different purpose than our Developmental Centers, which are closer to "asylums" than a training school would be.
