True, they are legal so long as you claim it is a tool rather than a weapon. The main issue is acceptable escalation and use of force, which is very circumstantial. For example, disarming an attacker and stabbing them with their own knife is assault with a deadly weapon, while overpowering and stabbing them with their own knife while it's in their hand can be considered self defense. Stabbing an unarmed or fleeing opponent is assault, and a knife should never be used except when all other possible avenues of escape have been exhausted. This means that even if someone twice your size tries to grapple you, you cannot draw your knife without being accused of escalating the situation.

I personally would rather use what's around me as a makeshift weapon (a metal rod, a broken board, or a piece of rubble), because I'm frankly more likely to get stopped by a cop than attacked, based on my experience. However, again, I live in a city with a relatively strong police presence, so it is less likely for me to encounter a mugger than it would be in Detroit or Chicago. Circumstances are different for everybody.

-If- a LEO ask about, I tell it's my fork away from home. If you get searched you better let them know where it is. Otherwise who cares?

Improvised is just that and if you can find that second. Even pulling a knife takes an eternity.
I like knives because with a reverse grip it's easy to conceal behind d your forearm. You can punch and skull tap with butt end. You don't have have cut or stab to use it as a weapon...

I completely agree with you. Unfortunately most people don't think about it like that. I personally always have a knife with me with a window breaker just in case. Comes in handy for a lot more than just busting a window if necessary.

Since most cops carry knives themselves, they don't give them a second thought unless you do something to warrant it. That's all the counts.

A widow breaker? Sounds like that's best left in the car. Explain?

I should rephrase. I guess the proper term is window punch. Its the small point on the bottom of the handle. Used to break windows in an emergency but I've actually used it for things other than windows. I've had doors lock shut behind me and have been able to use that to break the lock off to get out.1.

Looks more like a skull punch

I like a heavy knife that you can take a secure earth grip on easily. A $20 knife that I like a lot more than ones that are 3 times as expensive.

Exactly why I said theres more than one use for them lol. I agree. I've never spent more than $30 on a knife. I find the cheaper ones to actually be better quality most of the time.
