Jet Fighter Factory < on 1/10/2016 10:43 PM > | Reply with Quote
So far this year I have really struggled to find anything that has immediately been calling me to explore it. Maybe I'm just suffering a bit of burnout after last year's efforts but there we go.
So on one bored day I accidentally stumbled across somewhere I thought sounded interesting and did fit into my love of industry. I had no idea if it was still there or whether it was long gone as there hadn't been any photos of it posted online for nearly three years but what the hell, go and see whats what.
It's first, and most famous use, came with it's construction in 1940 as a facility to build and test prototype aircraft. The site gave birth to the only Allied jet fighter to see combat in the Second World War. Once the company was wound up in 1963 the site passed through a few different companies until it's last use by a company involved in manufacturing pipes for the petro-chemical industry. It closed in 1998 and has sat quietly decaying ever since.
