Have you ever been exploring with someone, who did something unethical that you weren't comfortable with?

I've had a few minor instances of that (mostly involving theft) - usually I can convince the person not to do the unethical thing, or convince him that the punishment if caught will be bad (if the righteous moral-babble doesn't work). However on one occasion I was forced to re-steal the stolen property from the thief after the fact, and go back to the location to return it (it was personal property and would have been missed). Obviously I did not go exploring with any of these people twice.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has ever been in that position, and how did you deal with it? Or if you just want to weigh in on how you would deal with it if a person whipped out a spray can and started tagging, or started breaking/stealing things, etc.

I make my stance known and don't invite offenders a second time. I wouldn't do anything while exploring other than let my objections be known.

I've had this happen a few times through the years mainly theft and nonsensical destruction of property. Granted my convictions on these transgressions were much stronger when I first began exploring then they are now. We all have lines and I still believe, take only pictures leave only footprints.

My philosophy on your question has never changed though....

Shit on me once, shame on you - shit on me twice, shame on me.

If I explore with you and you pull some shit I don't agree with then that's the last time I'll be in your company exploring.

Yeah, I just go with dudes I know (usually) don't break stuff. Once in a while someone will lose all self-control and drop a lightbulb down a stairway but nothing I can't deal with. Long gone are the days of watching imbeciles tossing flaming mattresses off a five story asylum roof and firing roman-candle balls at security.

I have to admit, those times were some of the best times of my life.

Roman candle fights; it's hellafun when they can fire back... It was fun times for whiskey fueled warriors.

I'm low key and usually alone. I don't have any tolerance for noisy morons; it attracts attention. As for doing anything other than snoop and shoot, got that out of my system decades ago. If I go nuts on something or someone it's for a good reason.
I tend to lurk just out of sight in the shadows.

I usually just avoid exploring with people that I don't know well. I have three close friends I explore with almost exclusively. I have met up with some members on here as well. But on many occasions I have local explorers, not from UER, sending me messages on Facebook and so on wanting to go out exploring. I hate for people to feel excluded, but at the same time I don't want to take just any random person who calls themselves a explorer out with me.

This is why I'm usually really picky about who I explore with. I almost always explored alone until a friend of mine wanted to give exploring a try. He's known the rules since the very beginning so we've never had a problem. If somebody did break the rules, said person would not be invited back.

One of my dearest friends is also one of the noisiest, clumsiest explorers I know and also one of the biggest liabilities, always wanting to try stupid shit but usually on the odd occasions I do explore with him now I can stop him from doing anything too silly. Although the time he dropped a cinder block into the open hatch of a very large grain silo which resulted in a huge bang was rather entertaining.

I luckily haven't had many experiences involving this, but there was one time where I had invited a friend to come explore an active site that was a waterfront property. The friend I had invited was fine, but he had decided to bring his friend, who I had to constantly babysit. He kept trying to throw tools in the lake, and was a constant liability.

I have been exploring Detroit for quite while now. I took these two guys who have just started exploring with me for one of my favorite buildings. They were fine but very loud. The next time I took them with me, they had brought this guy with them. He wanted to break everything he saw. There was an elevator shaft so he decided to throw bricks down there and it made the loudest noise. I am sure the security heard it. Never taking them again. So far, exploring with people who are from UER has been pretty good.

I never have to worry about that stuff, I only explore with one friend who isn't into theft or vandalism. If I ever did happen to be with someone who whipped out a spray can or something I'd likely slap them in the head...

Once explored an asylum with 3 other people, was familiar with 2 of them and the third one sort of tagged along for the ride. Naturally the tag along was an absolute piece of shit and started breaking chairs, dumping baskets that had things in them, poured out a jug of antifreeze on a motor inside? I got annoyed and ended the explore early so he couldn't ruin anything else.

I just kill them, dismember their bodies and bury them in several shallow graves around the abandonment. Naaa I usually just leave.

THIS.

...though, there are few local folks I won't explore with based off of what trusted explorers have told me about said local folks. My choice, of course. I rarely explore with more than two other people, so usually don't have this issue.

I have a small network of maybe three with whom I feel completely comfortable exploring. They don't destroy or take anything but pictures. And they are not a liability in terms of unnecessary risk or making loud noises. In the past I have explored with a number of different people, but found many of them were not as discrete. One almost fell through a hole in the floor of a thirty story hotel. Another was very loud in a downtown department store. And another kept flashing their light against windows, drawing attention to us. I do not explore with those people anymore. Luckily I have not been in a situation where someone was breaking or taking anything. In truth, I would be more pissed about someone tagging or destroying stuff in a location than I would be over them taking a few items.

My general rule of thumb is that if you leave the location worse than before we explored it, you are not exploring again with me again.

I will also actively avoid exploring with people that I know get noticed or caught a lot. Obviously that person is doing something wrong.
