My dad always told me about this place tucked away in the mountains. I finally got to take a peek. Anyone else been here?

Awesome location!

I've scouted the spot a few times but the warnings have always put me off (after being held up once by a park ranger at gunpoint I'm a little wary of video cameras in isolated, inescapable roads). There's also a legal tour if I recall.

How were the security arrangements inside and along the creek?

To contribute here's another,(but not as dramatic) hot springs abandonment nearby.

Thanks! Wow thats is crazy. I guess I got lucky that day. I'm not sure what security measures are along the creek. I just had to deal with fences with barbed wire. There were signs posted about security cameras, but I never saw any during my time there. I was at the location for quite a bit of time....i'm sure if there was a security officer/park ranger nearby they would have seen me. Your right... there is pretty much one way in and out, if you got caught you wouldn't be able to run away easily.

Nice photo set! I definitely will need to check that out next time i'm in the area.

That pavillion in the last photo is the money shot. You don't see structures like that in such a state of disrepair very often.

This place produces some really nice abstracts. Ample forest canopy provides some great light diffusion.

Any hint as to which mountains?

Not far off the 101. It is private property and they will press charges. The bridge belongs to the hot springs. The area is patrolled by sheriff's and rangers. Rangers are pretty cool, but the sheriff will ticket any car parked along the road. There is still a spot the at the pools where the hot springs still run, at the bath houses.

It is state park property, actually. The sheriff rarely gets out there. Hikers and mtn bikers park near the bridge all the time.

If folks were so interested, I could probably arrange a paid-but-not-expensive overnight campout/photo session given enough interest. I haven't been out there myself, but people I know who have been overnight have gotten to soak in the hot springs.

I would definitely be insanely interested in a campout as long as we can plan it a couple weeks in advance so I can make sure to get work off!!

Which part of the Bay Area is this location? Looks interesting and worth checking out!
