Strangest abandonments

So I was out taking pictures for a school project and stopped for pizza, and as I'm driving into the plaza I notice "Hey, what's with the boarded up farm house literally in the middle of a parking lot?". So I had a look and, yes, there was in fact an abandoned heritage home contained within a parking lot in Richmond Hill.

So it got me thinking, has anyone else found abandoned buildings in really weird places?

There was an old ass abandoned house in a new(ish) suburb near me. It was certainly built before any mandated building codes, and I estimate it was built in the 30's or 40's. Unfortunately, the neighborhood kids used it as a playground, and the interior was trashed.

I found an abandoned neighbourhood overlooking a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is what I saw out the window. Always good to have music when you explore.

Just recently, I found an abandoned church in a neighborhood of expensive houses. The church itself is a nondescript concrete-block building that is (mostly) boarded up. Kind of strange that it was surrounded by this subdivision and nothing was done with it. That being said, exploring the church was awesome. Almost everything was still there.

Ah, I remember this one.... Though it is now demolished it was nothing really special. I remember this one really weird house over on Ninth line, literally located RIGHT NEXT TO a Lullaboo daycare centre. It was more or less empty and not much of a pretty thing to look at but it was free of spray paint surprisingly. It was a neat place to visit but it's gone, shame I didn't get at least one good shot of the exterior.

I found a weird metal building out in the outermost corner of the California valley. I consider it my very own Top Secret Government Barn of Doom.

There is an awesome old manor house in the south of England, down a dead end farm track in what would have been the middle of nowhere before the M25 motorway cut through it. Nothing weird in that as it stands but this place, weirdly, was the headquarters of a Welsh chemical manufacturing company. At one point the inside had loads of laboratories set up in the rooms of the manor house but it's been abandoned ever since a fire destroyed the roof. Now it sits in a perilous state with a large metal roof held up by scaffolding covering the top floor which is now open to the air. Nearby there are former farm buildings that were converted into chemical stores with one housing machinery once used to wrap barrels onto pallets. Very strange, but I love it there.

It's such a strange mash-up of industrial and residential, in a totally unexpected setting.

Years ago in Bolton there was a still occupied small old house in a parking lot...the guy would not sell so they paved all around him and there sat his wee house in the middle of it. Not sure if it is still there...

I climbed an abandoned unfinished apartment building when I was living in Cancun. It had random couches scattered throughout the different floors. There were definitely squatters living inside. The weirdest part was it was clearly leaning to one side, which was unsettling. The roof had a spectacular view though.

Went hiking in a nearby park, one of the trails just kind of abruptly ends and dumps you out into a residential street. The house closest to the trail head, a modern style mansion, is just the dirtiest looking house i've ever seen. Looks like they fished it out of the ocean. Turns out it's been abandoned for 6 years and rain plus shade caused lots of slimy moss and algae to grow on it because the walls accumulate water because they have textured tiles.

Looked inside. The inside is just empty and clean and uninteresting. Not going to try to enter it, too high of risk, nothing interesting about it, and aside from that, i like my abandoned stuff to be decaying and ancient.

Was still a neat structure to find.
