It's unfortunate. Kid took a risk that didn't pan out.
20 years old is way too young to go.

A 24-year old (or 20-year old; his age differs between the two stories) rooftopper in New York fell to his death from the roof of the Four Seasons in midtown Manhattan to a maintenance catwalk 9 stories below.

This was completely preventable.

First mistake they were climbing on wet steel. He made the fatal mistake apparently of stepping backward without looking while lining up a shot.
You get one chance. There is no "if I fall" when climbing; you fall, you die.
Every time you move when climbing you must understand where you are. Had he maintained 3 points of contact on the catwalk he still be alive even though he made a mistake.

meh... Rest in Peace

Reading his last two posts on Instagram was pretty sad.

It really reiterates the old saying Here one minute, gone the next.

I'm reasonably certain that had I seen this thread, which my post has obviously been moderator-relocated to, I'd not have created a new thread about it in the first...or second...place.

Still, not such a happy new year for a 20 (or 24) year old kid.

Just a reminder to folks, don't be too casual about stuff like this no matter how many times you do it.

Whether it's been done 5 times or 50 times, you can still get caught or injure yourself or end up stone dead.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

So you've been here for a decade, posted four times, and are explaining your redundant post by copping to creating an entire redundant thread that was "obviously" deleted by a mod who knew a clone thread existed on a different forum page you don't regularly read. Then said-mod moved your post to the existing thread and all of the readers should realize this because it was "obvious".
Please, how was it obvious, my shy friend?

BTW, lighten up cupcake. I'm just tickling your cerebrum. Totally tongue in cheek. It's obvious.

Don't these folks take safety gear with them? It's like all those skater kids that get splattered wearing nothing but Bieber hair for protection.

Anyhoo, RIP kiddo...

Do people usually bring harnesses/safety gear?

Bumped for truth..

I am aware of every step and movement when I climb, I've been dumb enough to climb in an ice storm and in wet conditions but I also knew my limitations, boundaries and surroundings. I really wish others were more aware of the obvious dangers and took these precautions.

RIP Little Dude

No. Just gloves, first aid, and a respirator in my trunk - okay, and like 5 flashlights. And pepper spray. That said, I'm usually not climbing and repelling of of the sides of buildings, I'm usually inside of an old rickety structure wandering around on ground - however unstable that ground may or may not be. I like rooftops and recently climbed a crane for the first time in a large downtown construction site (good times!), but did not have any safety gear. I am not a huge risk-taker, honestly. The cranes have cages and metal flooring every two or so levels to prevent tragedies like this thread is about. I've climbed plenty of ladders, mostly in industrial locations, but none of this crazy shit I always hear about - hanging off of shit with one arm, sorry, but fuck that. You would think this type of thing would go without saying, and yet I'm compelled to mention it; I never ever drink (or do whatever if whatever is your thing) if I'm climbing anything, especially these high-rise mills and construction sites. I have consumed alcohol on one explore I can recall, but I'd been there a dozen times, knew the layout extremely well, and I was on the ground floor.

This is by no means directed at the individual that lost his life and this thread is referring to, but people have such a seemingly limitless capacity for stupid behavior, that it continues to astound me. Just yesterday, I was reading a news article on some idiot inside of a grain silo... throwing torches. Fire torches. Someone called in a fire in the silo and firefighters discovered this idiot. I am still trying to understand that one. Wow.

Anyways, sorry for my digression and soap box moment. As far as this thread, it always breaks my heart a little to hear these stories. I wish his loved ones the very best and echo what everyone else has said (the positive ones, anyway).

*edited to add the pepper spray - an important part of any of my explores because for every idiot, there's also a violent criminal or teenage wannabe gang banger out there that just wants my stuff or to take advantage of my smaller female stature (and offensive weapons and explores is another big personal no-no). Gotta love it.*

Realize though he didn't fall 90 feet; he fell about 25 feet onto a subroof of the building from accounts I read.
His death wasn't nearly so dramatic... I liked that clip though. Many think you'll get a second chance to regrip something before you fall. Very rarely is this how it works in real life.

Very sad for him and his family. I'm sure many of us have risked our lives in various ways when we were younger. Maybe this thread could be placed in Memoriam?
