Low security, and a have a snorkel (no tank). There was a few inches of air gap when I visited.

Thought about going back to check these out in the spring, but it's a bit of a drive. Looks like they may just lead back to a nearby cistern. Has anyone been in?

Id do as much research online as I could before diving in a confined space let us know what you find.

yeah, I would definitely take 2x's advice. Do LOTS of research because that sounds incredibly sketchy..... but by all means, if you make it out alive I would love to see the pictures.

Not THAT sketchy. I do have a sniffer.

It's very wise to recognize the potential, however.

That would be amazing to do. I just feel the same as everyone else, there's probably a lot of training that you'd need to undergo.

I spent a lot of time around confined spaces, and I've been trained in some of the precautions related to them. And while places like that are extremely interesting and seem to "draw" us in, I would seriously urge some caution. Take the advice of those who have spoken.

It's not weakness to research and arm yourself with the information. Trust me, things can go wrong very VERY fast in a confined space. It may be totally benign. But if it's not, it can overwhelm even the most experienced very quickly. Good luck.

It's a very bad idea. You may also get other people killed; more than one rescuer has died in spaces like this. To do this somewhat safely at a minimum you need scuba gear. Even then it would be sketchy.

If one thing goes wrong down there... try running 100 yards, then holding your breathe. Your margin for error is exponentially lower in a confined space especially a tunnel filled with water! Not knowing what's on the other end makes it even more dangerous. Simply not worth the risk.

Ever since I was a kid, Ive had a fear of getting trapped under water, snagged on something, could have been a bad experience I had snorkeling under a boat house at lake Tawakoni one time on some sharp sheet metal.

Have a friend that spent many years working on offshore oil rigs they had a lot more protocols and back up plans when confined space diving was involved. Sure its fun to dream about but in reality diving in zero visibility where you cant turn around or stand up is just scary.

Id be interested in seeing the context of this shaft, of all the images Ive seen of this place Ive never seen that it probably goes nowhere or just down to the powder magazine which will just be an empty room.

This location is a Texas State Park, correct? Park Rangers may very well know what it is and where it goes. You may also be able to dredge up historic diagrams of the fort. I be fascinated to know more as bunkers are a blast.
The tunnel(s) maybe trash filled and could be unstable from a century of corrosion as well... just isn't worth killing KIA over though.
