Christmas in Korea is either a deeply religious holiday or a couple's holiday. Either way, I'm out, as are most foreigners separated from their families during the holidays. So, I use the occasion of a day off to round people up and take them deep undergroud on a raspberry wine-fueled voyage into a tunnel made famous by a horror movie.


1. We always meet on the same front steps for the same train station. The placement of this ad on the stairs was unfortunate when you're up close.



2. A quick glance into the railyard, a massive construction project failure that's been sitting abandoned since 2013.



3. Time to head underground.



4. Group photo with Santa! Right before I took this, I dropped my camera on the ground lens-down, chipping the lens hood and breaking the zoom gear.

6. Team 2 arrives about 20 minutes after us.
