Whats up guys, I got a Gopro Hero 3+ silver from my uncle for christmas, and I was wondering if there is a use for it in the UE world? And do some of you use Gopros when exploring?

Can't say I've ever used a gopro, but some ideas for what you may use it for:

  • Climbing around on scaffolding or other high places
  • Biking around larger locations (make sure it's safe first!)
  • Capturing the exhilaration of elevator surfing (I do that, not a lot of others on here do though)
  • Speed up the capture of you just walking around a large location, to illustrate its scale
  • Capture running machinery in active sites
  • Capture wildlife
  • If you do train hopping, a gopro would be pretty handy to capture that
  • Likewise for trains whisking by if you're in an active subway tunnel

My girlfriend rented one for our visit to North Brother Island. Other than the memory card filling up super quickly it was pretty useful.

One of my friends uses one all the time on explores, he's captured some pretty hilarious footage of both me and him climbing in and out of places before. Great fun.

I've brought it a few times on explores (also 3+ silver) but can't say it's very good for what we're doing. The fisheye warps all architectural lines and it's not that great in low light. Also, when you carry it on your body, expect 90% to be a shaky mess.

I have a hero 3+ silver as well and have brought it with me to a few places. I think it's cool but as mentioned here already, it's bad in low light. I've actually stopped bringing it with me because most of the footage is extremely grainy because of the low light issue.

I own two GoPro Hero2's and bring them everywhere with me. I manage a YouTube channel for my urbex adventures and love the versatility and quality of the footage. Yes, they are grainy in low light, but bring a high power flashlight with you and you're fine. =) You more likely than not are not trying to shoot Hollywood footage so a little grain is fine for memories and to show to friends. I sometimes wear one on a head mount which makes taking photos easy. Otherwise put one on a pole and use it like a regular camcorder. I'll attach a couple links to footage I've shot on my GoPros. Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the replys! I'm probably not going to bring my gopro to explores, since its probably the most expensive piece of tech I own right now. Thanks for the input!

Forgot to add, if you own a DSLR with video function and a nice lens it will probably perform way better than the GoPro. I'm always amazed by the quality videos I get from my Canon 500D with Sigma 10-20, even though it only films in 720p.
