Anyone know of any tripods for under $100 that would be durable enough for urban exploring?

Manfrottos are pretty nice, and they have decent ones for under $100. That's what i use.

I've been using this low priced one for years now. It's held up greatly for it's price. I removed the stock head and use a Manfrotto pistol grip head though.

Best value for my dollar. When it eventually dies, I'll upgrade to a better Manfrotto one, but this has so far been with me through thick and thin.

I found that if you are serious about taking pictures, just pay up for a good one. I spent years buying cheap tripods and just dealing with the broken knobs or jammed legs until ultimately throwing them away for a new cheap tripod. Eventually I just payed the price and got a top quality tripod and couldn't be happier. Its been through hell and still works like the day I got it.

But like these guys said, Manfrotto is a solid choice. Induro, Benro, Slick, are also good choices with cheap options.

I use an ancient, aluminum Sony tripod designed for broadcast cameras; doubles as a defense weapon. Eventually Manfrotto is the way I'll go, though.

My Benro is awesome, and probably half the price a Manfrotto with the same specs would be.

Walmart's got some for about $25, lightweight and plastic. However you're going to go through 3-4 of them a year. If you're a part time, part time explorer perhaps that might suit your needs.

Otherwise as recommended by others, go with something a little higher ($75-$100) and not cheap plastic. The leg clamps to lock are usually the first to go if it's cheap quality plastic.

I've upgraded to a manfrotto and love it, but as far as cheap ones go I used a dynex for awhile. Got it on amazon for like $40, used it for years and never had an issue with it.

I carry this:

I like that the Slik (and the others too, probably) have a removable center column (if the extra height isn't necessary) to help reduce the weight you're lugging around.

But the Dolica Proline looks good too.

I have an old Gitzo Studex tripod that was meant for medium format cameras. It weighs enough to probably double as a hammock stand : )

Get anything with a ball head and you'll be golden.

I paid $40 for an Amazon Basics and $13 for a small tabletop/portable Manfrotto

This small one has come in handy many times. This always stays in my camera bag (wedge it in a lens slot), great for impromptu explores, nice to not have a tripod advertising thousands of dollars in camera gear on my back at night too
