Power plants fascinate me. The engineers and architects of these structures put their attention toward function rather than aesthetic yet somehow still made something beautiful. Its hard to see these places go but sadly its near impossible to logistically convert these buildings into anything else, so they end up being destroyed.

A few different locations on a few different films with a few different cameras.

Very cool. I share your love of power plants, just don't get to see them as often as I'd like.

Great work with these! Diggin' 'em. I also enjoy power plants quite a bit.

Just recently in my area, an abandoned power plant of sorts was converted into a cranberry processing plant. I have no idea what it all entailed, but it must've been a lot of work!

Great photos!

Did you go up the stack? That would have been my first impulse on such an awesome site.

I'm guessing that this was a coal-fired plant?

Alas, the only power plants I've been able to get to were active, so I had to be very careful while inside.

Awesome shots and locations here! One of my main urbex goals is to get into a large power plant. The only ones I have been in were small and part of a complex.

If you're in Toronto, be sure to check out the Hearn Thermal Generating Station near the Leslie Spit. It's a truly incredible place and, best of all, it's inactive!

Thats amazing. Very rarely do you see large scale power plants converted into anything else.

I didn't climb any of these stacks. I only climb stacks that have a standing platform on top.

This is a number of different places but yes all coal fired plants.

Thanks everyone

Really fantastic work (as always). I'm also really impressed with the scanning and colour correction (my kryptonite).

Very fine shooting at a great location.

Some power stations were built to look fabulous. Art Deco knock outs! The Chester Power Station in Chester, PA was one of these. It's been converted to a office building but much of it was preserved including the main control room. I shot it in 2004 unfortunately I only had my crappy Sony.
